This could make it easy for widgets to use remaining space, and to ensure that long segments don't mess up the layout.

I've noticed this for the past couple weeks (possibly in relation to 4241962 ?) where the mpd widget will display elapsed time always increasing and the elapsed time indicator never changes. Killing and restarting wkline is enough to have the widget show the elapsed time indicator as of the moment wkline starts, but the time will continue to increase infinitely and the elapse time indicator will never change. This occurs with both a local and online theme.
