Supported Architectures

Our images support multiple architectures such as x86-64, arm64 and armhf. We utilise the docker manifest for multi-platform awareness. More information is available from docker here and our announcement here.

Simply pulling ghcr.io/linuxserver/mylar should retrieve the correct image for your arch, but you can also pull specific arch images via tags.

The architectures supported by this image are:

Architecture Tag
x86-64 amd64-latest
arm64 arm64v8-latest
armhf arm32v7-latest

Usage

Here are some example snippets to help you get started creating a container.

docker-compose (recommended)

Compatible with docker-compose v2 schemas.

---
version: "2.1"
services:
  mylar:
    image: ghcr.io/linuxserver/mylar
    container_name: mylar
    environment:
      - PUID=1000
      - PGID=1000
    volumes:
      - <path to data>:/config
      - <comics-folder>:/comics
      - <downloads-folder>:/downloads
    ports:
      - 8090:8090
    restart: unless-stopped

docker cli

docker run -d \
  --name=mylar \
  -e PUID=1000 \
  -e PGID=1000 \
  -p 8090:8090 \
  -v <path to data>:/config \
  -v <comics-folder>:/comics \
  -v <downloads-folder>:/downloads \
  --restart unless-stopped \
  ghcr.io/linuxserver/mylar

Parameters

Container images are configured using parameters passed at runtime (such as those above). These parameters are separated by a colon and indicate <external>:<internal> respectively. For example, -p 8080:80 would expose port 80 from inside the container to be accessible from the host's IP on port 8080 outside the container.

Parameter Function
-p 8090 WebUI
-e PUID=1000 for UserID - see below for explanation
-e PGID=1000 for GroupID - see below for explanation
-v /config Where mylar should store config files.
-v /comics Map to your comics folder.
-v /downloads Map to your downloads folder.

Environment variables from files (Docker secrets)

You can set any environment variable from a file by using a special prepend FILE__.

As an example:

-e FILE__PASSWORD=/run/secrets/mysecretpassword

Will set the environment variable PASSWORD based on the contents of the /run/secrets/mysecretpassword file.

Umask for running applications

For all of our images we provide the ability to override the default umask settings for services started within the containers using the optional -e UMASK=022 setting. Keep in mind umask is not chmod it subtracts from permissions based on it's value it does not add. Please read up here before asking for support.

User / Group Identifiers

When using volumes (-v flags) permissions issues can arise between the host OS and the container, we avoid this issue by allowing you to specify the user PUID and group PGID.

Ensure any volume directories on the host are owned by the same user you specify and any permissions issues will vanish like magic.

In this instance PUID=1000 and PGID=1000, to find yours use id user as below:

  $ id username
    uid=1000(dockeruser) gid=1000(dockergroup) groups=1000(dockergroup)

Application Setup

THIS IMAGE IS DEPRECATED. Please migrate to Mylar3.

The web ui for settings etc, is on <your-ip>:8090 For more detailed setup refer Mylar.

Docker Mods

Docker Mods Docker Universal Mods

We publish various Docker Mods to enable additional functionality within the containers. The list of Mods available for this image (if any) as well as universal mods that can be applied to any one of our images can be accessed via the dynamic badges above.

Support Info

  • Shell access whilst the container is running: docker exec -it mylar /bin/bash
  • To monitor the logs of the container in realtime: docker logs -f mylar
  • container version number
    • docker inspect -f '{{ index .Config.Labels "build_version" }}' mylar
  • image version number
    • docker inspect -f '{{ index .Config.Labels "build_version" }}' ghcr.io/linuxserver/mylar

Updating Info

Most of our images are static, versioned, and require an image update and container recreation to update the app inside. With some exceptions (ie. nextcloud, plex), we do not recommend or support updating apps inside the container. Please consult the Application Setup section above to see if it is recommended for the image.

Below are the instructions for updating containers:

Via Docker Compose

  • Update all images: docker-compose pull
    • or update a single image: docker-compose pull mylar
  • Let compose update all containers as necessary: docker-compose up -d
    • or update a single container: docker-compose up -d mylar
  • You can also remove the old dangling images: docker image prune

Via Docker Run

  • Update the image: docker pull ghcr.io/linuxserver/mylar
  • Stop the running container: docker stop mylar
  • Delete the container: docker rm mylar
  • Recreate a new container with the same docker run parameters as instructed above (if mapped correctly to a host folder, your /config folder and settings will be preserved)
  • You can also remove the old dangling images: docker image prune

Via Watchtower auto-updater (only use if you don't remember the original parameters)

  • Pull the latest image at its tag and replace it with the same env variables in one run:
    docker run --rm \
    -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock \
    containrrr/watchtower \
    --run-once mylar

  • You can also remove the old dangling images: docker image prune

Note: We do not endorse the use of Watchtower as a solution to automated updates of existing Docker containers. In fact we generally discourage automated updates. However, this is a useful tool for one-time manual updates of containers where you have forgotten the original parameters. In the long term, we highly recommend using Docker Compose.

Image Update Notifications - Diun (Docker Image Update Notifier)

  • We recommend Diun for update notifications. Other tools that automatically update containers unattended are not recommended or supported.

Building locally

If you want to make local modifications to these images for development purposes or just to customize the logic:

git clone https://github.com/linuxserver/docker-mylar.git
cd docker-mylar
docker build \
  --no-cache \
  --pull \
  -t ghcr.io/linuxserver/mylar:latest .

The ARM variants can be built on x86_64 hardware using multiarch/qemu-user-static

docker run --rm --privileged multiarch/qemu-user-static:register --reset

Once registered you can define the dockerfile to use with -f Dockerfile.aarch64.

docker-mylar's Issues

Getting 'InsecureRequestWarning'

When I select a comic and go into the page to link on the issues, they never load. When looking at the log i get the following, and this is all that loads.

/app/mylar/lib/requests/packages/urllib3/connectionpool.py:768: InsecureRequestWarning: Unverified HTTPS request is being made. Adding certificate verification is strongly advised. See: https://urllib3.readthedocs.org/en/latest/security.html

Could not locate exceptions.csv file

linuxserver.io

Host OS: Ubuntu 18.04
Mylar Log Output:
21-May-2018 14:05:43 - ERROR :: mylar.csv_load.1079 : MainThread : Could not locate exceptions.csv file. Make sure it is in datadir: /config/mylar

Not sure why the exceptions.csv, _sample.csv and custom_exceptions.csv files were not created when the container first generated all the other configurations. The errors resolved themselves when I manually entered into the container and manually moved the files to my configuration directory.

FeatureNotFound error in logs

thanks for this container, but could you add the following to stop this error showing in logs:

"FeatureNotFound: Couldn't find a tree builder with the features you requested: html5lib. Do you need to install a parser library?"

To resolve I run:

"docker exec -it mylar /bin/bash"

then

"pip install html5lib"

Which fix's the issue and allows a better torrent search if you have that setup in mylar.

Much appreciated :-)

Startup error when http_host is set: Failed to start on port: 8090. Is something else running?

When I launch the docker of mylar (see below for launch command), I cannot launch of the configuration value for http_host is my hostname instead of 0.0.0.0. The error is noted in the below docker log output. I have confirmed that nothing else is running on this port. I can change the http_host value back to 0.0.0.0 and then restart the docker (not the server) and it comes up just fine.

My primary need is to get this working behind traefik as a reverse proxy. If there is a way to go about this without setting the http_host value then I am willing to try another approach, but the docs and my experience indicates that this is necessary to get the reverse proxy to work. Otherwise mylar wants to redirect to the internal docker IP of the host system when I try to access off of the hostname.

Mylar3 - New Docker?

Hi, I've just saw that the old Mylar project has stopped development and all efforts have moved over to Mylar3.
I don't know if the best option would be to just update this docker project or create a new one, but something should be done before they decide to EOL the old project, thanks.

configparser missing?

mylar is able to tag meta data to the comics when post processing

for it to work configparser needs to be included.

is it included?

Mylar runs but displays a yellow popup with the text in the issue title. If you go to settings it does not display which git branch is installed or the versions checksum.

Mylar should display what version of the app is running somewhere.

The https://hub.docker.com/r/lsioarmhf/mylar version has always displayed this information. But the https://hub.docker.com/r/linuxserver/mylar version does not.

Mylar generates errors when trying to communicate with the new WWT site. I manually updated the WWT URL in my install (since it is only updated in dev github) but once it points to new site errors like the following occur.

[WWT-RSSFEED] Unable to retrieve RSS properly: Missing Node.js runtime. Node is required and must be in the PATH (check with node -v). Your Node binary may be called nodejs rather than node, in which case you may need to run apt-get install nodejs-legacy on some Debian-based systems.
