Ah, that is the handling of comments in functions/macros which is playing up. Now, if the first element in the body is a string it is assumed to a comment and is dropped, so if you have a body with just a string it is removed. With quoted strings this was no problem, but now when you just want to return a string it gets misunderstood as a comment.
I will come with a fix which only as accepts the first element in the body as a comment if the body unless it also is the last element in the body.
