The * optional operator allows accessing the value without checks for if the value is actually contained. Several repositories have implemented the latter, using .value() when the contents of the optional are already checked.

Refactor all existing code to implement the more efficient solution.

Refactor specialised methods, which return only a subset of parameters and not a whole peripheral's register's worth of information, into an extended class that inherits from the base.

This should result in the base class being less bloated and forces use of the basis functions.
