That feature is definitely required. I was actually planning to implement it at some point, but for that, some uniform input like e.g. texture would be required.
At some point, the map will be generated from heightmap and some map areas will be painted in certain ways - with that, we will have 2 textures - one for heightmap and the other for colors - with that, the above feature will be easy to implement.
