Wind Waker Randomizer

This is a randomizer for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
It randomizes all the items in the game so that each playthrough is unique and you never know where a particular item will be.
It also makes the game completely open world from the start, removes most cutscenes from the game, and increases sailing speed and text speed.

Information

The randomizer only supports the North American GameCube version of Wind Waker. (MD5: d8e4d45af2032a081a0f446384e9261b)
The European and Japanese versions of Wind Waker won't work, and neither will Wind Waker HD.

The randomizer guarantees that every playthrough will be completable, and that you don't need to use any glitches or tricks to beat it.

All items are randomized, but because Wind Waker is such a large game, a single run of it would take a very long time if you had to check every single location. Therefore the randomizer has options to limit where progress items can appear based on the type of the location.
For example, you can limit progress items to appearing in dungeons and secret caves only, or secret caves sidequests and mail, or any other combination you want.
Location types that you don't select will only have unimportant items that you don't need to beat the game - like rupees, heart pieces, bomb bag upgrades, etc. So you can skip checking them entirely, unless you want some of those optional items.

Randomizer won't launch?

If the randomizer gives an error saying "Failed to execute script wwrando", or if the executable disappears before you can launch it, then your antivirus software may be incorrectly detecting the randomizer as malware. You should add an exception/exclusion for the randomizer into your antivirus software so that it will ignore the randomizer if this happens.

Running the randomizer from source

If you want to run the latest development version of the randomizer from source, follow the instructions below.
Note that this is only recommended for advanced users or those interested in helping develop the randomizer.

Download and install git from here: https://git-scm.com/downloads
Then clone this repository with git by running this in a command prompt:
git clone --recurse-submodules https://github.com/LagoLunatic/wwrando.git

Download and install Python 3.12 from here: https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-3121/
"Windows installer (64-bit)" is the one you want if you're on Windows, "macOS 64-bit universal2 installer" if you're on Mac.
If you're on Linux, run this command instead: sudo apt-get install python3.12

Open the wwrando folder in a command prompt and install dependencies by running:
py -3.12 -m pip install -r requirements.txt (on Windows)
python3 -m pip install -r requirements.txt (on Mac)
python3 -m pip install $(cat requirements.txt) --user (on Linux)

Then run the randomizer with:
py wwrando.py (on Windows)
python3 wwrando.py (on Mac)
python3 wwrando.py (on Linux)

Optionally, you can also install requirements_full.txt with the same process you used for requirements.txt above.
requirements_full.txt will install additional libraries that speed up texture recoloring, as well as for building a distributable version of the randomizer. You can still run the randomizer from source without these.

Can't Get Small Key in DRC

I've consulted the spoiler log and in it for DRC it says:

Cannons at the Eye Reefs missing

Cannons at every eye reef are missing, no chest atop the according "eye" at any reef, tried a few seeds so that shouldn't be the issue. Also tried setting the eye reefs to not contain progression items to no effect.

I also used the wind waker falling glitch to swim underneath the island, but they weren't there either. I suppose that they just didn't load. FF and IoS cannons are loading fine.

For now I'll just play without adding the eye reefs to the randomizer table, but it's better to report a bug than to ignore it.

trouble randomizing

i am kinda bad at this stuff but i have randomized my ww iso and everytime i open it in dolphin it is the regular ww iso, i already downloaded the newest version of dolphin and nothing, also the cant join the discord, pls help

Cutscene items

So, I’ve been watching a play through of this and tried it out myself, loving it, but it seems that every item that would appear in a cutscene doesn’t exist. For example; you will find Din’s pearl somewhere in the world, but the normal place for the pearl gives you nothing. Is there specified places that these items are supposed to go, like extra chests that me and the other guy can not find?

Treasure chart 42

I'm currently in the middle of a play through and can not progress without the fire arrows. I finally caved and decided to look up where the next bow progression item was. It said Gale island sunken treasure, which is treasure chart 42 and is only in the HD remake. How am I suppose to get something not in the game?

[Suggestion] Cosmetic Swords

Wouldn't it be neat if you could set The Diferent Master Sword Levels to be diferent sword's? aside from the Hero sword's. i mean we could have the Phantom And Lokomo Swords in the game. and their models do exist in Hyrule warriors.

Increase cruising speed

Could you Increase The Cruising Speed For the Boat so it can either Match HD or go faster? If its Possible that is? Tower of the God's first floor is horrible with the normal cruising speed. Making an option to speed it up works too!

[Suggestion] Preview Colors

it would be nice to see how your Player Character would look in the Generator itself rather than having to make multiple seeds if you didn't like how the colors ended up

[Feature request] Sunken treasure complete removal option

It would be awesome if you could add an option that would complete remove the sunken treasure you get from seacharts( for example completely remove the charts alongside the treasure from the gamecode or just put all treasure charts into the chests underwater).
That way every item,rupee,... would be in the overworld/dungeons,...

[Suggestion] Sail speed and wind change

Would it be possible to detach sail speed and wind change from each other in the randomizer?

I like having the wind change direction as I turn but the sail makes me go too quickly to enjoy the sailing around aspect and bits like the boating course are far too irritating now

[Suggestion] Starting unequipped

It kinda feels like there should be a way to start without even the basic sword and have to settle for other weapons you find, like the hammer, bow, or even bombs until you get the first sword. And maybe the shield too. On that note, how about an option to start without the Ballad of Gales and perhaps the whole Wind Waker in general, but that can only be done if you choose to use the Swift Sail. More stuff to find, more randomness.

wwrando wont open

My computer will not open the randomizer. It says I lack the permissions to do so. Also my avast says its malware and removes it.

Immobile Blocks and Mirrors In Earth Temple

Just got to the Earth Temple, and there seems to be a weird glitch where I'm unable to move blocks or mirrors at all, preventing me from accessing certain parts of the dungeon. I thought this may be an intentional design choice to make it more challenging, but I've never seen anyone else deal with this. I have no issues moving blocks in other areas. I very well could be doing something wrong (heck, I probably am), but I don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

FW Softlock

The game softlocked during the defeated Kalle Demos cutscene. I did NOT use Light Arrows, but I did kill Kalle Demos with fully charged Master Sword quickspins (maybe this is similar to Molgera softlock?).

Light Arrows Glitch Jalhalla

So tiny little glitch is when you kill the poes during the Jalhalla fight with light arrows the game will hang for a bit when he reforms and the poes will not actually be defeated, his health bar does not actually go down when they are killed like this.

Possible fix would be making the poes immune to light arrows, or checking for the flags that lower his hp. I have a video clip of the fight here from my stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/289715360

Can't get bombs

I gave up and looked at the spoil log, and to get bombs, I need to do Zunari's trade quest. To do that I need the Delivery bag, which is sunken treasure at spectacle island, which is chart 22. But to get chart 22, I need to sink the gunships, at rock spire isle, with bombs.

Can not progress.

I got stuck, so I looked at the spoiler log for the grappling hook for sunken treasure. In order get the hook, I need to deliver a letter, so I looked up where the delivery bag is...and it's in a sunken treasure chest.

Can't get Din's Pearl

According to the spoiler log Din's Pearl is found in the Big Key Chest in the Tower of the Gods. Is there a way to get into the Tower of the Gods without it or is this a bug?

[Question] Tingle Tuner

I was wondering if the tingle tuner can still be used. I tried to use it but it didn't detect the game boy advance sp. Is my cord messed up, or does it have to be an original Gameboy? Does the randomizer not support the tingle tuner? Hopefully I can figure out what went wrong. like I said, not sure if its the console, hand held, cord, or the randomizer itself. any help would be appreciated.

Stuck in arena.

If you dont have the hookshot by the time you get to the mini boss fight to save medli on dragon roost isle. You will get stuck in the arena once the gate closes. Seed: (SixAlikeTrouble) Saving and restarting the file fixes.

I ran into an issue where the game would softlock in Wind Temple if you went through one of the warp pipes without moving Makar to another room. I have all 3 warp pots unlocked, if that would change anything.

[Suggestion] "All Dungeons Mode"

So I was wondering if it would be possible to make an "all dungeons" mode by making it so at least six of the triforce shards are held by the six great sea bosses, and either the player starts with the remaining piece, it's put on the ghost ship, or it is randomized.

Could probably make it a cool name like "Courage Mode" or something too.

Stuck in Dragon Roost Cavern

Hi, I was just wanting to let someone know I encountered a bug with the randomizer. I am currently in Dragon Roost Cavern and have used up all of my small keys and can no longer continue the dungeon. The first two small keys I had to use to get to the door that is right next to the bird's nest. The next small key I can get is after that locked door but can't cause I used them all to get to that door. Here is my spoiler log and my Dolphin version is 5.0-8909. Thanks.

To get bombs I need to destroy cannons at five-star isles. I tried going around and getting the triforce shards to go to hyrule but one of the shards is in the 5 eye reef chest which I need bombs to get. I don't see a way around this at the moment, but I'm continuing to try to find a way.

I tried finding some creative ways to destroy cannons, but nothing has worked so far.

Can't get Nayru's Pearl

Looked at the spoiler log for Nayru's Pearl, and it says its located in the Maze chest in Ganon's Tower. I have all Triforce pieces, but as far as I'm aware you can't get to Ganon's tower without first opening up the tower of the gods to get to Hyrule. Is there a way to get there I'm unaware of?

Savage Labyrinth Hint Tablet Item Message

I have the newest version of the randomizer. I know this because I can change character models, and their hair/clothes color. If I'm assuming correctly, the tablet under the giant head, and right next to the secret cave is supposed to have the information on what items are on floors 30 and 50. It says "The Savage Labyrinth! Deep in the never-ending darkness, the way to challenge awaits". Does this mean I'm looking at the wrong tablet, it only shows progression items on the tablet if there is any, or mine is possibly bugged? Thanks in Advance!

Unable To Leave Phantom Gannon Fight at FF

Not sure if this is possible but can you remove the trigger that stops you from getting on the King of Red Lions during the Phantom Gannon fight at Forsaken Fortress. I was playing around trying to kill him without the master sword and the only way to "leave" the fight was to die, void, or save and quit.

If you try to get on the King he tells you to "trust in the master sword" and won't let you leave.

Unobtainable Bombs

I spent many hours trying to locate Bombs without success, so I consulted the spoiler log. According to the log, the bombs are given by the Great Fairy on Eastern Fairy Island. But I can't enter the island without bombs - unless I'm completely missing something.

Roll Physics Not Co-Operating with Ice Physics

So just had a bit of a hard time with ice ring island. I was trying to roll jump across the platforms and Link kept refusing to actually jump. Not sure if this is an issue in the base game but I heard a rumor that this game uses the HD physics, if so is there any way to tweak the ice physics so that if you start a roll right on the edge of an ice platform it doesn't just drop you down without jumping?

What am I missing?

This is my first time playing a randomizer and I love it but I am honestly completely stuck. I am missing the mirror shield, color camera and Farore's Pearl that all have ways that would allow me to progress. I've done everything, even things that I didn't check the boxes for when creating my randomized game and I can't seem to find any of these items. After competing the auctions, the trade sequence, all the dungeons that I can, I don't believe I've missed any islands or random chests in the world.

I was wondering if there was any way to do a check on where even one of these would be just so I could know I'm not going crazy. My seed is UnconsciousInteriorMinenco if that helps.

unbeatable randomized run

I created a randomized game without glitches which seems to be unbeatable.

The Grappling Hook can be found at Rock Spire Isle which is blocked by a boulder.
The Bombs are hidden in Bomb Island which als requieres the Bombs.

Without the Grapplink Hook I'm not able to progress in Dragon Roose Cavern since I'm missing a Small Key. The only possible way in there would be to use the Deku Leaf in the big lava room to glide into the hole next to the lava fountain at the bottom of the room. To go even further the Grappling Hook is neccessary.

So I think this is run is unbeatable but maybe I'm missing something.

Cannot progress in dragon roost.

I cannot get the Chest Across Lava Pit I think thats the one (it's the room that also has a switch in it that opens the door). Which i can't progress in dragon roost without the key in that chest, but it would require either Deku Leaf or grappling hook. I can't get grappling hook because it's in Lenzo's House - Left Chest which i can't get to without leaf. I can't get leaf because it's Jalhalla's Heart Container which i can't get to without mirror shield which is in the Pot Room Chest that i can't get to because i can't get the small key in the first chest i talked about. Second Quest

Since the PictoBox Chest is already open on the second quest it can break some seeds if a triforce shard,proggresive sword,etc. could you add an option that makes Link wear his Lobster Shirt?

Logic Change

I Feel its a nice idea to Have the DRC invisible wall Removed but have the logic know about that is kinda of annoying, You could get Locked in a dungeon that requires nothing more than the Grapple Hook Because one of the small keys is in the big chest that you now need the Leaf to Reach. I Suggest Having the Invisible wall in the Logic still but feel free to keep the wall away.
