Mars Explorer

This project has been archived and there are no plans to develop it further or suppor it.

Mars Explorer is an Android application. The app retrieves images sent from the three exploration rovers currently on Mars - Curiosity, Opportunity, and (now defunct) Spirit and displays them neatly for the user to browse.

The application consumes Mars Photo API for the images and REMS API for the weather report.

Grid UI enhancements

Changes to be made to the grid layout -

  1. Image details partially overlapping their respective images - Done.
  2. Spacing around the columns - Done.
  3. Loading animation on pagination - Done.
  4. Make collapsible toolbar smoother on expansion and contraction - Seems to be smooth.
  5. Grid items scroll up animation - Done.
  6. Pull down to refresh - Done.

Rover details page.

  1. A general information page for every rover.
  2. Maybe make a backend to update the information via an API.

Fix shared element transaction animations.

  1. Shared element transition occasionally gets stuck when navigating from Main Activity to Explore Activity. This is observed specially when user taps on a rover button navigates to Explore activity, returns and then taps on another rover button.
  2. The transition is not smooth on navigating from explore fragment to expanded view and on navigating back.

About page.

Create an 'About' page that'll show usual 'About' information.

Expand image on tap.

  1. Expand image on tap.
  2. Give zoom in capabilities.
  3. Save/ Download option.
  4. Show available details of the image (eg. Camera)
