The algorithm could be improved, and new API might be able to help too.

The player would only see what's in their line of sight. This wouldn't be useful but could be fun. Might not be feasible performance-wise.

Hey! Love the plugin and have an idea to add to the config. How about an option that makes it so the tile highlights are only displayed when the player is using a ranged/magic attack style? The config option could be called "Hide in melee" or something like that. Thoughts? If there aren't any objections, I'd be happy to make a PR! =)

Is it possible to add this same mechanic for NPC's too? just as a check to add for all NPC's, or a list where you put names or id's? A method similar to what "better NPC highlight" could be suitable if you need an example

Instead of highlighting every square within line of sight, could there be an option to toggle and just show an outline of max range and where things block view. In img attached what im proposing is just showing the red line and removing all the other tile markers
