An 8-byte memory header adds 20% to 33% on top of the space needed by a dirent struct. We can reduce that to arbitrarily low levels by allocating many dirents at a time in large contiguous arrays, and keeping a linked list of unused entries (a freelist).

make a cluster function for running multiple cubbyd instances in a cluster
