lgbthistoryfestival's Issues

Changes from Tony

Hi Kim,
Looks so good I want to eat it.
Home page very enticing.
Typos and amendments are as follows:
Under ‘Venues’ sub-page ‘Main venues’ paragraph it says ‘Manchester has it’s’. There shouldn’t be an apostrophe.
Under ‘Schedule’ sub-page ‘Jan Bridget’ link it says: ‘ From poor background’. Missing ‘a’
Also on Saturday the Laila El-Matoui looks as if it should be a live link but it isn’t. Ditto first two events on Sunday. I presume that is because they haven’t put in their spiel yet.
Sunday 14.50 insert ‘the’ before UK and it’s a nation not a country.
‘Minners’ should be’ miners’
A number of pm workshops on Sunday have no link. I presume that is because they haven’t put in their spiel yet.
Sub-page ‘About Us’ para 2 under ‘Why This is happening’ insert UK after Schools OUT (and wherever Schools OUT occurs thereafter).
Festival themes point 3 ‘compliments’ should be ‘complements’
About the organisers para 1 pls insert ‘UK’ after Schools OUT
About the Organisations. Schools OUT (UK).
Please delete Schools OUT aims, so that the aims for LGBT History Month are the only ones visible.
i.e. visibility; awareness; safe spaces; wellbeing. These are in our charity’s constitution and are invariable; whoever gave you the aims you quoted needs to be made aware of this.
Under ‘Academic’ tab schedule Saturday 15.30 should be ‘mis-readings’ (unless it’s a pun; I don't think it is though)
Under ‘About’ tab ‘About the Festival’ line 5 ‘celebrate’ should be ‘celebrating’.
Think that's it.
Thanks as always and a HNY!

Create unique ID for events so they can be linked to

I think this means we should probably move to a lightbox/modal box for the event popups. Will give us space to fit in speaker bio too.

  • Needs to be added as the li id for the event
  • Human readable-ish
  • If browsed to manually, needs to open up the lightbox
  • Closing down therefore requires clearing the URL

Reload bug on Safari

Rude bug report but at least they were specific!

I have been trying to book/reserve tickets these past few days, but there are so many bugs in the web site, I keep getting bounced back to the Homepage when I scroll down the Schedule. i can never get past Friday, and if I press on an event for more information, I get bounced back to the homepage. I have never encountered such a badly behaved site!
The problems are occurring when trying to access the web site with a mac, operating system OS X 10.6.8, browsing with Safari 5.1.10

Refactor image thumbnail handler

Images are a mess. I used middleman image thumbnailer before realising that it creates thumbnails whether needed or not.

Possible action choices:

  • Improve middleman-thumbnailer to only generate requested images
  • Remove and just do it all manually, with a more sensible namespace
  • Create our own solution that would also manage lightboxing larger images.

What's on area

I need to supply icons for the different items, also will provide SVG for all the different vector elements around the site.

The images used on white need some sort of treatment or framing, they look really messy as is. Can discuss when you're here.

The graphic elements seem missing from the header, and the ticket stub/styled headers are also very small. Type also seems inconsistently sized for various elements. (Also letter spacing for pink titles as per other issue).

First photo area on site tweaks

Type is bold not regular.

Image itself needs darkening – I can do this erm, can probably find it in the files here somewhere :D

Changes from Sue

3 we need the unison logo up there
4 it wouldmake sense to say by each event that is free and

Header design + main navigation

Doesn't fully reflect the new design (the nav/header which scrolls down however does accurately reflect the design) – will supply new header logo + asset as SVG if required.

Main navigation roll over states from white + black text to black with white text.

Typography - Pink text

The pink text around most of the site has this issue, I've increased tracking/letter spacing to give a more retro feel – I don't think it's been implemented anywhere yet, hopefully a minor fix.

Catherine email

Thanks for sending this over. I think there’s a few issues with the timings on the schedule for the Sunday (for example Under the Rainbow is only 60 minutes long, and I thought a Very Victorian Scandal was only 30 mins?)

Please can you add the following blurb to Under the Rainbow and change the title and add the following blurb for my tours.

Sun 15 February

In order to keep our events programme affordable to everyone, please make a donation
Suggested donation £3
1.30pm – 2.15pm & 3.00pm – 3.45pm

Also I’ve just noticed quite a few spelling mistakes:

Greenham Common: ‘announced an the radio’ should be ‘announced on the radio’
A Lancashire Tale: ‘1880’s’ should be ‘1800s’
‘Lesbian and Gay Support the Minners’ should be ‘Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners’ ‘1970’s’ should be ‘1970s’ ‘Lesbian Gay Support the Miners’ should be ‘Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners’

I think the Diversity Lessons and Under the Rainbow should be labelled as ‘Family Space’

It would be useful to have the start and finish times of all the events on the website, as we’ll need them to add to ours and it’s currently a bit confusing.

Could you send me all the final blurbs as a word doc so I can add them to our website?

abstract calendar logic

calendar logic needs abstracting so we can have a version on the academic page with just the academic cal.

Add speaker list to schedule page

Great work on this, backend looks solid. For now I think this needs to just be a simple list, in a new branch.

  • Sorted by first name is fine
  • Needs to be a standardized square bio img -- maybe 150x150 for now?
  • We can require all bio photos are in the format firstname-lastname.jpg (Manchester In Love/Stuff from presenters folder for a start). If no picture, either initials in big like Sched does, or just a default image.
  • When clicked, should filter out all events they are not talking at.

Implement author metadata on calendar

Given an event title with text say "1st Allan Horsfall lecture, {Paul Martin OBE} {Sue Sanders}"

I want their names to be removed from the title, and some kind of metatext added that links to their bio etc.

Design sponsor section

The list seems to keep growing so suggest you pick a suitable width and don't worry about them filling rows!
