中华人民共和国行政区划代码 — Codes for the administrative divisions of the People's Republic of China

The GB/T 2260 standard defines six-digit numerical codes for the administrative divisions of China, at the county level and above. For instance, the Haidian district of Beijing has the code 110108.

The most recent version of the official standard, designated "GB/T 2260-2007", was published in 2008. However, codes are routinely revised, and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) publishes an updated list online annually.

gb2260 produces and exposes an up-to-date list of the GB/T 2260 codes, with extra information including English names, Pinyin transcriptions, administrative levels, etc.

Update to latest set of codes

v0.1 used the 2012 codelist, released in 2013 (version=2013-08-31).

Replace with the codelist version=2015-09-30.

make any updates to the code necessary to correctly import it.
add imports of the 2012 and 2014 codelists to the test suite.

rename lookup() to search()
entry class named Division built around sqlite3.Row
database class & instance named divisions (pycountry uses subdivisions)
stack() method per GB2260.py, aliases for other attributes

Custom exceptions

lookup() raises LookupError for multiple different conditions; this makes it hard(er) for code to understand what type of exception has been encountered during a lookup. Add subclasses.

Strip e.g. ' shi' suffixes from name_en
