freenas-quicksync's Issues

can't find dri & drm

I did everything written in your tutorial but not the downgrade to libva2.5 .
Installed new Plex version 1.18.8.2468 . But i can't find the dri and drm in dev. In the plex-jail i find drm.ko and i915kms.ko via kldstat.

Any idea?

btw. the dates in your readme are little confusing... 2019/2020 dd/mm vs mm/dd

ffmpeg

hello
is that also applies for ffmpeg hw acceleration?
does kaby lake supports > https://docs.frigate.video/configuration/hardware_acceleration/ ?

also i was told that xeon doesnt support ffmped hw acceleration but i can see >
Testing on a 1225v6 Xeon (7th Gen Kaby Lake) used ~2-3% CPU for a 1080p VC-1 -> 1080p H.264 hardware transcode. The same machine was at 70-75% CPU for a software transcode of VC-1 -> H.264. Some Bluray disks used VC-1, before H.264 became ubiquitous.

so transcode is different compare to hw acceleration?

thanks!

Support for Emby

Hi,

Does your script support only Plex? The only mention to Plex is the command [plex_drm=5] so I'm wondering if I can use that script, changing plex_drm with emby_drm in my emby jail. It seems that the other commands are generic and don't concern the underneath server.

Panic when running "kldload" command

Version: FreeNAS-11.3-U1
intel CPU : j4105

When I run the command it reboots.
" kldload /boot/modules/i915kms.ko "

I get a panic and can't:

I will wait until the FreeNAS 12 version is released.

Needed to install Intel drivers and rename libraries in Plex Jail to get this to work

My system: FreeNAS 11.3U4.1 running on an i5-4690K in a Gigabyte Z97M-Gaming-5 motherboard, using an HDMI dummy dongle.

I had to follow some of the additional steps outlined in this Plex forum thread:

https://forums.plex.tv/t/enable-hardware-acceleration-support-for-bsd-based-plex-servers/236120/104

Specifically, I had to:
install the intel-driver and intel-media-driver packages in the Plex Jail
I had to copy the driver files into the /usr/local/share/plexmediaserver-plexpass/lib/dri folder (they were not there)
I had to rename the various libraries that were included in the plexpass/lib folder that are obsoleted by newer ones in the Jail's /usr/local/lib folder.

Once I did that it started working.

Motherboard compatibility

Hi

I understand why X11SCL-F won't work but I don't get why X11SCM-F won't and X11SCH-F is expected to work? both are C246.

Thanks

Additional info

Could we have a note added about the issue with (So far) Kabylake generation processors having problems with the jail losing dri/drm access?

And that a reboot of the host is required to resolve?

Also remove or edit the notes at the bottom to indicate they are not currently required?

Cheers for the otherwise excellent information here!

Console screen goes black when running script post init

I found this guide while trying to get hardware encoding working. While initially everything seemed great, Plex was reporting that HW support was working (I did have to pkg install drm-kmod before /dev/drm and /dev/dri` would show up in FreeNAS itself), at one point the system seemed to freeze up (probably unrelated to this), I walked up to the console of the machine itself and saw that the screen was black. After rebooting the system, the system turned black again at the end of booting. Right before it went black: I saw this message flash on screen: https://imgur.com/a/Td5dkz1 (screencap of cellphone recording of monitor, message is gone before I can read it)

The system did boot though, I can SSH into it, the WebUI works... Disabling the script post init fixes the issue and I can see my console again.

I am using a SuperMicro X11SSH-F with the lastest BIOS (2.3) and an Intel Xeon E3-1275 v6. What could be causing this?

Transcode is not reliably working on TrueNAS Core 13

According to the TrueNAS Community Forum, there is an FreeBSD upstream issue. My Plex jail does crash after 1 - 2 hw transcode streams. Am depending on software streaming for now, which is subpar for power efficiency.
