@spalger thanks for pointing it out. Technically this is not a blocker, because you can override the headers that are returned to the client via source configuration parameters, and simply ignore the ones returned from the cassandra store. I think the config of the cassandra store in the future should allow "headers" param (or content type, etc) to customize this.

I will close this as there is a workaround, plus there is no nearterm plan to support PNGs as "first class" object type.
