Advent Calendar

I use Winter quite a few years now as an Advent Calendar and players always run into some problems because of some illogical issues.
I'm only talking about the Dated Gift function.

  • Players don't understand that they can't click on the sign. They need to be told to click on the chest only.
  • Players don't understand that they need to open the chest twice. They need to be told.
  • Players don't understand that they need to grab the item(s) themselves. (They are used to crates)
  • Players sometimes forget to have an empty place in their inventory.
    All this causes a lot of the same questions. Staff members need to explain this often, despite instructions, warnings, etc. This leads to complaints like "I didn't get anything" causing staff to believe this and compensate for the lost items (possible scams).

Therefor I would like to suggest the following:

  • ability to click on the sign as well as opening the chest
  • ability to push item to inventory upon first time
  • ability to drop item on the ground when the inventory is full.

Griefprevention compatibility

  1. How it would benefit others? (Not just you, but 1,000s of others people using the same plugin.)
    A lot of owners use GriefPrevention, and some players on these servers don't like the snow, even if it's decorative. (I don't understand myself why they don't like).

  2. What would happen if we won't implement this feature? How's your server being affected?
    The players would stay angry :(

  3. If suggesting something new - Can the old system be modified/improved instead?
    Add a way to make the /claimflags nosnowform working by don't putting snow in the claim with this claimflag.

Latest update breaks plugin 1.12.2 Paper

I have tried using default configs.
the latest update for winter in 1.12.2 server version makes it so the snow only spawns at 1 random part of each world.

there Is no snow at any other place both with realistic disabled & enabled.

Cauldron with powder snow

A cauldron in a snowy biome fills with powder snow when it is snowing. Since it snows in all biomes in this plugin, I believe that powder snow should fill the cauldron everywhere. Many players on my server asked to add this feature, so I will be grateful if you add it.

1.16.4: Commands / Setup?

Just purchased the plugin, really excited to use it. Just wondering, before I actually add in the .jar file to my server, are there any resources for useful commands or setup guides? I noticed the Wiki was empty.

Mostly just wondering what will happen by default when I first start up the server? I'd like to add the plugin now to check things out, but I don't want it to actually start snowing until December 1st. Should I run the server with the plugin, then stop and disable it quickly so I can examine the config files? Or will it not actually start snowing until I enter a command?

Winter Biomes Feature doesnt Work.

Hi, i love your Plugin but i have an issue. I downloaded Protocollib and even changed the settings in the setting.yml file but it doesnt work for me. I dont know if i downloaded the wrong ProtocolLib so i dont know whats the problem with it.

All now should melt

Snow doesn't melt if it is "covered". Example, snow covered a field, but we planted tree's. Now the snow does not melt from the base of the tree until we manually remove it.

  1. How it would benefit others? (Not just you, but 1,000s of others people using the same plugin.)
    Nobody would have to spend time manually digging snow from beneath tree's (or any other structure that was built after the snow arrived)

  2. What would happen if we won't implement this feature? How's your server being affected?
    Snow will remain in areas that it shouldn't, and I have to spend time removing it to restore the biome to it's proper appearance.

  3. If suggesting something new - Can the old system be modified/improved instead?
    I'm not sure.

new form factor of snow

hi, is it possible to make the generation of snow around a person a square, not a circle? it would look much cooler and more realistic, otherwise it is very noticeable that the snow falls in chunks + you can make exactly the radius of the snow falling in blocks, and not in chunks

1.16.4: Snow particles not appearing

Paper 336, Winter 2.5.2, vanilla client, snow particles are not appearing in-game despite "weather disable" false and "snow enabled" true. This same settings file worked properly last year with earlier versions. Client is configured to show particles (eg rain works). Snow is generating correctly on the ground. No errors/warnings in the server log.

We run this plugin all winter (4 months) to make a winter season, and enjoy it very much.

[Feature Request] Reduced Fall Damage on Snow

This is a feature that would increase the immersion and usefulness of snow in the plugin. By making the player take reduced fall damage whilst falling onto snow, it brings both increased utility for snow (since it can be used to decrease fall damage of players and mobs) as well as improved realism, since snow does indeed help lessen the impact of falls in the real world as well. There are already several alternative ways to reduce fall damage in Minecraft, like hay bales, beds, water, slime blocks, cobwebs or even the recently added powdered snow. However, none of these are ideal since these options only reduce your damage by either 80% (hay bales), 50% (beds) or 100% (water, cobwebs, ladders). And neither of these options are really aesthetically pleasing, unless used in very particular instances. Snow would look much nicer and blend in better in a wide variety of scenes, especially in a wintery environment, in that regard. It would also make exploring the new extremely high lofty peaks a little less punishing whilst climbing them.

Hello! I recently just purchased this plugin. It was very nice but it caused my server insane amounts of lag and TPS issues. I tried to adjust the settings as much as I could. I even tried to add melting and it made it way worse. The more players that joined my server it just got worse. This plugin seems to be not suited for the amount of people on my Minecraft survival server. I would like to refund the plugin please.

1.16.4 (PaperMC): Snow generation leads to corrupted chunks

I've been experiencing corrupted chunks when snow generation is enabled. This has led to major issues and huge downtimes.

After a random time, usually one to two days with snow generation being enabled, you'd see messages like this:
Saving oversized chunk [-14, -15] (1720638 bytes} to external file ./world/region/c.-14.-15.mcc.
That's a corrupted chunk. As soon as someone gets near the affected chunks, the server will stop responding to anything.

Minecraft 1.16.4: Snowmans

Hi, is there any possibility to reduce or disable snowman spawning ? They are overspawned and they cause severe tps drops

[Feature Request] Adding Skiing

This is a feature request I believe would fit perfectly with the theme of the plugin- namely skiing! Imagine if you could craft skiis by combining sticks and wooden planks together, and then it's off to the slalom slopes! There is already a mod that does pretty much what I had in mind already, but it's Forge mod and is both client side and server side. This feature would benefit players during the winter season, or in frozen biomes, where there's plenty of snow and tall peaks (especially with the new 1.18 lofty peaks biome).

Radius?

Is the "Radius" setting for the snow supposed to represent the number of chunks out from the player that get covered in snow?
Just trying to understand the config so I can tweak it for performance.

Water flowing down besides fields is still being freezed

I'd love to have a "range"-setting for freezing water near crops.

A couple users complained about their farms not working anymore, as water flowing down besides crops will eventually, when dropping down by one block, freeze as the one water-block on the step is not right near to a crop.

It'd be great to have the option of defining a range (both horizontal as vertical) for water to not freeze around crops, to assure that farms still work.

Is it possible to use Winter alongside RealisticSeasons, or for you to add compatibility?

Basically, I'd like the RealisticSeasons winter to be replaced by your particle effects.

1.16.4 Melting Snow and Ice?

Hi. I bought and installed this plugin yesterday. The snowing and freezing worked fine and as expected. It was great.

Then, I set melting = true, and about only a small amount of the unnatural snow melted, and most of the water remained frozen.

I need help getting rid of the unnatural snow and ice. Either it's melting really slow and I can't even notice it, or it isn't melting at all. I tried setting the check for blocks ticks lower to get to melt faster.

I was afraid to remove the plugin, because I was afraid the snow and ice would be stuck permanently.

Please let me know how to melt or remove the snow and ice created by the plugin. Thanks!

And now, I tried setting the melt back to false, and it didn't start snowing or freezing again. I think it stopped functioning. I liked this when it was working. But I mostly need to make sure I can get all of the unnatural snow and ice removed.

I deleted and reinstalled the plugin, and now melting is happening again. Issues resolved. Thank you.

[Feature Request] Expanding Beyond Just The Winter Season

I'm sure this isn't the first time this has been requested, but since I couldn't find any open requests for it here on GitHub I thought I'd at least write it out publicly! It would be absolutely outstanding if the Winter plugin could start introducing seasons beyond just Winter. There are plugins on the market that do feature other seasons, but none of them are nearly as feature packed or well designed as Winter is. Unique features in each season could include (just examples):

  • Especially clear and sunny weather in the summer.
  • The player getting too warm during summer if they're wearing a full set of armor.
  • Crops growing quicker in the summer.
  • Trees leaves becoming orange / falling off in the fall.
  • Especially rainy weather in the fall and spring.
  • Higher chance of thunder storms in the summer.
  • Windy in the fall, with blowing leaves in the wind and loose dropped items blowing away in the wind unless they're covered from it.
  • Real life seasonal cycle, i.e. the season changes based on what the current season is IRL spanning across a whole year, or a specified time period.
  • More "cold" mobs in the winter and more "warm" mobs in the summer, for example strays, penguins and polar bears in the winter and husks in the summer.
  • Sand becoming too hot to walk on in the summer. And deserts causing heat stroke if you don't drink enough water.
  • Mushrooms grow extra quickly in the fall.
  • Planted flowers can spread to nearby places in the spring.
  • Obviously, biome colors will change based on what season it is.

1.8: TPS issues with mid-playercount

Hey there, I purchased Winter a few days ago and have been noticing a ton of TPS issues since I brought the plugin into the server. Even with around 20-30 players online our TPS gets hit for around 5-10%, and seems to only be going up as more players login. I have the settings at nearly the lowest they could possibly go, so I'm not sure why we are still seeing such an impact on performance. I plan on turning up the settings as christmas gets closer, and if lag is happening with the current settings, I'm not sure if that will even be a possibility.

Allow players to block snowballs with shield

Shields do not block any damage from snowballs thrown by psycho snowmen. This makes them way too overpowered. I think we should get an option to allow shields to block snowball damage.

Earlier today, I bought the Winter plugin, however, it did not seem to be a fit for my server. Unfortunately, it does not cover areas in snow if there's any obstacles above it, so it looks pretty choppy in a forest region. The same issue with ice-forming occurs, when theres a bridge, or a block above the waters surface, it fails to replace all the water with ice.

We have unnatural / fake snowy terrain which does not use vanilla biomes and is a server built area, which the plugin's melt feature doesn't seem to support according to the config comments and we also allow players to build / interact with the world so creating a backup and reverting it via world backups isn't an option for us.

Perhaps, those could be suggestions for improvement. I think a lot of what people are looking for is a simple but effective way of covering every block, including tall grass with snow and easily being able to remove it all at a command.

Northern lights/aurora borealis

I would be awesome if Winter could have Northern lights (aurora borealis) in the winter sky

I couldn't find a plugin or datapack that can do this. So this would be unique!

Sorry but I would like a refund

Hi, I really like what you do but me and our developers keep running into a tonne of issues:

  • It's still raining while snowing even when disabled
  • The console keeps posting hundreds (spamming) of error messages every time I try to run a command
  • The server crashes when executing some commands
  • The snow-particle count doesn't work/ doesn't wanna in- or decrease
  • It sometimes snows in the hub world even when that world isn't in the config

As I mentioned I really like the idea and aspects but it just is not the right plugin for us.

Region option to enhance the plugin further

I would like to suggest having a region option within the configuration settings as well as a world option.

I am looking to set up a winter event and don't really want to create an entire world for it, but have a designated WorldGuard region.

I feel with would benefit everyone as many users will create regions for events, rather than whole worlds.

It will not affect my server moving forward, but feel that this is an enhancement.

1.16.4: Stop snow from accumulating on paths?

I notice the "Do_Not_Place_On" config setting.
Is there a way to configure this so that snow still accumulates on dirt, but not dirt that has been turned into a path with a shovel?
