alpha's Issues

Mobile landing page text broken

  1. The 'Alpha Revive' banner text on the mobile landing page - prior to login - is too large to fit on iPhone.
  2. It would be preferable to have the login button onscreen - to avoid scrolling.

A screenshot illustrates it neatly:

Page layout fails in Firefox

Past the login screen the site now fails to render the sidebar & icons and, for example* reply to post fails too. Only seen using Firefox. Posts now fill the whole screen width. The site works as-expected in the latest Chrome browser.

Observed Friday June 6 using Firefox 29.0.1 [update, page also fails in FF30.0], Windows 7 and Firefox on @rabryst's Windows and OS X.

Mine was a new install of Firefox, but @rabryst reported the page was working until clearing the browser cache.

*I didn't test everything, sorry.

Photo uploads broken again

Getting the error "Something is wrong with the server. Please wait a moment and try again." when uploading photos again.

Page layout fails online in multiple browsers

The online page layout is failing - as with issue #11 - but now in every browser I've tried. I'm assuming it's attempting to display the mobile view so there's no sidebar, no clickable menus.

  • Home: Ubuntu 14.04: Chrome, Firefox.
  • Home: Windows 7: Chrome.
  • Work: Windows 7: IE 11.

Suggestion: Reduce white space between messages.

Could you please consider reducing the amount of white space, initially between messages, maybe elsewhere later?

Why? On a 1900 x 1200 (24"/61cm) display with default browser zoom there are:

  • Only 6 rows visible when arriving at the page (i.e. with the post dialogue visible.)
  • A maximum of around 8.5 rows scrolled down the list.

(FYI my 14" laptop at home though has half the totals.)

This may have 2 positive benefits:

  1. More posts onscreen.
  2. It may be better to visually indicate a difference between JVI Alpha and ADN Alpha - e.g. to ensure that editing account info is seen to be done in a separate site.

Suggestions:

  • Compress the space between window title and post dialogue.
  • Compress the space both sides of the lines dividing posts.
  • The post status line is currently always below the avatar, even for a single-line post (may require lots work to achieve minimal benefits.)

Thanks for reading!

Suggestion: add a search bar

A search bar similar to that at the head of ADN's Alpha page would be useful. Have you any plans yet?
If implemented may I suggest that it remains onscreen instead of scrolling away with the stream? (I know that stream position will be overridden as soon as search results display but I'm unsure how to deal with that.)

Posting without ruining current stream marker position

Since Alpha gained stream marker support I've been annoyed that you have to scroll to the top of the page to create a new post. This scrolling sets the stream marker to the latest post displayed in the stream.

If I haven't been on App.net in a day but just want to post something quickly I have to abandon all the posts I would normally read, just to post some nonsense in the moment. Could there be a way to present a modal posting window? Or maybe have the current post area become sticky like the sidebar?
