  1. No because you cannot test how the individual components will interact with each other on a feature level as needed to test the messages feature.
  2. yes you can us a unit test to test the max message length feature. Writing a unit test for this iwll ensure that it behaves properly should the max length be exceded and ensure that it properly triggers only when the max length has actually been exceeded.
