git-impact's Introduction

git-impact

Recently, Github retired their cool impact graphs.

https://github.com/blog/1323-retiring-impact-graphs

I liked them, and I wanted them still, even for projects that weren't Github hosted, but no one had made a tool that ran on a Git repo yet.

So I took RaphaelJS's demo code (http://raphaeljs.com/github/impact.html), cleaned it up, made it better, and made a tool to generate the data that it wants.

Usage

~/your/git/repo$ /path/to/commit-data.py | /path/to/preprocess.py \
                 > /path/to/impact-data.js

Put impact-data.js in the same folder as your impact.html.

git-impact's Issues

NameError: global name 'sys' is not defined

This looks really useful however I've run into a problem when trying to run the command in the README. When I use the command while in a git repo and on Ubuntu:

~/git-impact-master/commit-data.py | ~/git-impact-master/preprocess.py / > ~/git-impact-master/impact-data.js

I get the following error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/home/matt/git-impact-master/commit-data.py", line 99, in <module>
    main()
File "/home/matt/git-impact-master/commit-data.py", line 90, in main
    if len(sys.argv) > 1:
NameError: global name 'sys' is not defined

Any ideas what this could be?
