Usage

import { withTheme, ThemeProvider } from 'theme-provider'

function MyApp({ theme }) {
  return (
    <ThemeProvider theme={theme}>
      <MyThemedComponent />
    </ThemeProvider>
  )
}

// theme variables
export default withTheme({
  primaryColor: 'blue'
})(MyApp)

// or theme variables as a function of props
export default withTheme(props => ({
  primaryColor: props.primaryColor
}))(MyApp)

Check out the basic form example for the entire source.

// MyThemedComponent.js

import { withStyles } from 'theme-provider'

function MyThemedComponent({ styles }) {
  return (
    <div style={styles.base} />
  )
}

export default withStyles(theme => ({
  base: {
    background: theme.primaryColor
  }
}))(MyThemedComponent)

Usage with Glamor

// MyThemedComponent.js

import { style } from 'glamor'
import { withStyles } from 'theme-provider'

function MyThemedComponent({ styles }) {
  return (
    <div {...styles.base} />
  )
}

export default withStyles(theme => ({
  base: style({
    background: theme.primaryColor
  })
}))(MyThemedComponent)

Usage with Aphrodite

theme-provider's Issues

shouldUpdateStyles

function createStyles(theme, props) {
  return {
    backgroundColor: theme.primaryColor,
    padding: props.large ? '2em' : '1em'
  }
}

function shouldUpdateStyles(theme, props, nextTheme, nextProps) {
  return (
    theme.primaryColor !== nextTheme.primaryColor &&
    props.large !== nextProps.large
  )
}

...

export default withStyles(createStyles, shouldUpdateStyles)(Component)

update withStyle to only update on theme updates not props

for dynamic styles based on props update styles in the render function:

const createStyles = (theme) => ({
  container: (props) => ({
     ...
  })
})

const Component = ({ styles, ...props }) => (
  <div {...styles.container(props)} />
)

this would be a breaking change

Allow styling from props in withStyles

function createStyles(theme, props) {
  insertGlobal('html', {
    fontSize: `${theme.baseFontSize}px`
  })

  insertGlobal(props.rootSelector, {
    height: '100%'
  }
}

export default withStyles(createStyles)(Global)
