About me

Welcome. I am Johann N. Löfflmann from Munich, Germany. My first computer was a C64. I have a university degree in computer science. I worked for both Sun Microsystems and Oracle as a tech engineer, and Java was my daily business for many years. Today I am working as a presales consultant for tailored IoT projects. Once a developer, always a developer. For 20+ years, I have enjoyed writing FLOSS code. Robust, modern, shiny code. Well, at least sometimes 😉

Jacksum

Jacksum (JAva ChecKSUM) is a free, open source, cross-platform, feature-rich, multi-threaded data integrity verification tool on the command line. It is also a lib, and it is all about checksums, CRCs, and message digests (aka hashes, data/file fingerprints, thumbprints).

use zenity instead of Kate for less intrusive interaction

using kate will switch the current active tab in the editor (annoying). Zenity (or kdialog on KDE) is probably a better default choice for this. e.g.:

cat /tmp/jacksum.50865.txt | zenity --text-info --width 777 --height 400

Minor deployment regression: in the tarball the files should be stored in a directory

The 2.5.0 tarball stores all files in the tarball's root, this is not correct, it should store the files in the folder called jacksum-file-browser-integration. Documentation is correct, the tarball is not. This is a minor deployment regression since the 2.4.0 tarball is correct.

Support muCommander

muCommander supports custom commands stored in a file called commands.xml, it is saved under ~/.mucommander on GNU/Linux.

So it is a candidate in order to expand the list of supported file managers for the Jacksum File Browser Integration script.

cmd_calc /lib && cmd_check /lib => Jacksum: new files (NEW): 493153; version 3.1.0

While playing around with the new version 3.1.0:

jacksum cmd_calc /lib && jacksum cmd_check /lib

Any Hints/explainations are welcome.
