calctex's Issues

create image directory if not existent

I changed calctex-latex-image-directory to point at a ramdisk location (tmpfs filesystem), which is completely empty after a system reboot.

To ensure that the directory of calctex-latex-image-directory is existent, I inserted an

(make-directory calctex-latex-image-directory 'parents)

int my emacs init.el

Maybe, this should be done inside the package?

How to control display style?

Thanks for the great package. It opens a new door for me to write LaTeX.

Screen Shot 2019-08-08 at 8 49 42 AM

I'm quite new to LaTeX and calc.el. Following the demo of README, when I press Q, the intermediate result looks like the above image, who to make it like \sqrt{2 \pi \sigma^2}? Also the \exp looks different from the demo in README.

Prune large file history?

It seems that there are some MP4 file histories in the repo. I use straight.el to install this package and it takes quite a long time the clone the whole repo. Will it possible to prune these histories using techniques like this?

pdfTeX log opened by calctex

Hello,

I've just started using this, and it's great! I like it so much that I've added the following to my config

(add-hook 'calc-mode-hook #'calctex-mode)

Unfortunately, this results in a huge pane for pdfTeX opening up. Would we be able to suppress this?

Asside: is there any particular reason why you're not using latex + dvipng?

Thanks in advance,

Calctex does not render latex fragments, blocks Emacs

I'm running Calctex on Emacs 27.1 on Arch Linux.

  1. I start calc (C-x * c)
  2. type in some input (sin(x), shows up in latex display mode as \sin{x})
  3. M-x calctex-mode
  4. Calctex prints a message to the echo area: Rendering LaTeX: \begin{align*} \sin{x} \end{align*}
  5. Nothing happens. Emacs input is blocked unless I hit C-g C-g C-g.

I did some debugging:

  1. I have compiled the dvichop binary and set the correct paths for calctex-dvichop-sty and calctex-dvichop-bin.
  2. The function cacltex-texd-render-process is called, but remains indefinitely in the loop
      (while (not (or calctex-latex-success calctex-latex-error))
        (accept-process-output calctex-latex-proc 0.1))

so calctex-accept-latex-output does not report a success (calctex-latex-success) or an error (calctex-latex-error).

I also did the following:

  1. Copy all the preamble and main body code from the functions calctex-setup-texd, calctex-texd-render-process and calctex--texd-shipout-page to a test file.
  2. Add an \end{document} to the test file.
  3. Run latex -jobname calctex test_file.tex in a terminal. This produces no errors, but a four page dvi. My \sin{x} is rendered on page 3, the other pages are blank.
My texlive distribution is not missing any of the required packages.

LaTeX code produced, but no image rendered

First of all: This package looks very promising. I didn't know it yet, but I was waiting for something like this my whole life ๐Ÿ˜„

I have followed the instructions:

  1. (require 'calctex)
  2. Enter calc
  3. enable calctex-mode
  4. Enter some algebraic formula (e.g '1/x)

This prints \frac{1}{x} in the calc buffer, but doesn't actually render the image. Am I missing something? Also, I my Emacs instance starts lagging a lot after entering the first formula.

Summations

Could it be possible to write summations?

Matricies not rendrering correctly

Great package!
I have an issue with matricies not rendering correctly after being processed by latex, that makes this (rendered by Big language mode):

[[1,2,3]
 [4,5,6]
 [7,8,9]]

renders like so (by LaTeX):

(1)23456789

The generated LaTeX that I get, when turning off calctex-mode looks like this:

\begin{pmatrix} 1 & 2 & 3 \\ 4 & 5 & 6 \\ 7 & 8 & 9 \end{pmatrix}

which renders correctly on quicklatex.com

Could it be an issue with the parsing?

EDIT:

Provided more detail

spacemacs package or layer

A quick guide on how to install this package on spacemacs, (with the appropriate with-eval-after-load 'org) would be very helpful. I would love to use this package.
