Aquasense AI

Discover Aquasense AI: your gateway to transformative technology for public health and environmental sustainability across Africa. Powered by AI, Aquasense is a pioneering conversational platform designed to revolutionize water management

Structure

Welcome to the Aquasense AI! Here’s how it's structured:
backend/: Contains Python-based backend code using Flask, encompassing API endpoints, database models, and business logic.
frontend/: Houses JavaScript, React, and Redux frontend code, including UI components in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
models/: Holds trained Generative AI models in Python, crucial for enhancing Aquasense AI's capabilities like visual question answering (VQA).
bot/: Includes source code for a Telegram bot, facilitating interaction and integration within Telegram groups.

Problem Being Addressed

Africa faces significant challenges with improper waste disposal and water shortages. Improper waste disposal in Nigeria has led to health concerns such as increased cases of diarrhea, particularly in cities like Odukpani and Akamkpa. This also contributes to environmental degradation and biodiversity loss as animals ingest plastics. In Giyani, South Africa, severe water shortages force residents to travel long distances to collect water from shared sources with animals, exacerbated by delays and budget overruns in water infrastructure projects like the Giyani Water Project.

Proposed Solution

Aquasense AI proposes a unified system utilizing AI, IoT sensors, and machine learning to address these challenges:
Waste Detection: Utilizing AI and object detection technology, the system allows users to photograph areas with improper waste disposal. Geolocation data is then sent to waste management companies for prompt action, including clean-up and legal measures against illegal dumping.
Water Shortage Detection: IoT sensors installed at wells and taps monitor real-time water flow and quality. Machine learning algorithms analyze data to detect anomalies such as dry wells or broken taps, enabling quick response and optimization of water distribution.

Alternatives to the Proposed Solution

Waste Management: Current manual inspection methods are limited in scope and effectiveness, particularly evident in cities like Blantyre, Malawi.
Water Shortage: Alternatives include purchasing water from supermarkets or relying on unreliable government water trucks, which are inadequate solutions.

Reasons to Choose Aquasense AI

Waste Detection: Offers nationwide coverage for identifying areas requiring waste management intervention, enhancing resource allocation efficiency.
Water Shortage Detection: Real-time monitoring ensures proactive management of water supply issues, optimizing distribution and improving water security.

Customer Segments

Primary Customers: National governments responsible for waste disposal and water management.
Secondary Customers: Private waste management companies and local water authorities seeking advanced solutions.

Early Adopters

Waste Detection: Solid Waste Departments in Malawi, dealing with challenges in managing unauthorized dump sites.
Water Shortage Detection: Local authorities in Giyani, South Africa, grappling with ongoing water scarcity issues.

Monetization Strategies

Waste Detection: Monthly subscription fee of $100 for access to the waste detection and reporting system.
Water Shortage Detection: Subscription-based model for real-time monitoring and data analysis services, tailored to local authorities and governments. Challenges
Waste Detection: Requires substantial datasets, annotation efforts, and high-performance GPUs for AI model training.
Water Shortage Detection: Challenges include deploying IoT sensors in remote areas while ensuring data accuracy and reliability.

Additional Project Information

Waste Detection: Future plans include integration with city surveillance systems and drone technology for enhanced coverage of illegal dumping activities.
Water Shortage Detection: User-friendly dashboards for automated reporting aim to empower local authorities in effective water resource management.

By integrating waste management and water shortage detection, Aquasense AI aims to provide a holistic solution leveraging technology to improve public health and environmental sustainability across Africa.
