Better support for dynamic content

One other idea for a project I'd like to do either as part of a web design overhaul or figuring out how to do dynamic content with Hugo, would be to continue publishing content using user-friendly tools

  • blogger for blog entries (blog.openboxes.com)
  • discourse for community posts (community.openboxes.com)
  • youtube for tutorial videos (hyoutube.com/@openboxes)

... but then pull the content into our Hugo-powered website. We also use netlify, which might have some options to help with the dynamic content (i.e. cron jobs)

Given that our website is powered by Hugo, a static site generator, handling dynamic content is more complicated than you might expect. But there are a few ways to accomplish this.

  • Run a cron job every few minutes / hours to find content in multiple sources
  • Use javascript to pull the content you want (blog RSS feed) info different pages.
