3D Emulation Issues

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Play Super Mario 64 using the emulator
2. Use the Wii version (only tested on the Wii version)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: Proper (or close enough) rendered 3D

What I see looks, in some cases, fine. In other cases, I see bizarre
looking warping of the 3D image. This is in a very predictable pattern, it
appears that any points that the n64 software tries to display "behind" the
camera (with a Z less than 0, assuming positive Z indicates greater depth)
are getting calculated incorrectly.

Because of how correct everything else looks, including the models that
make up characters and enemies, I would assume that this is a very simple
bug. I would almost claim that for whatever bizarre reason, you are using
an unsigned number for Z when rendering, but I know that's far too
unlikely. Either way, it seems to be an issue with the projection matrix,
somewhere, deep deep in the code.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Wii Version, using SD card loading, Pure Interpreter, With or Without sound

Please provide any additional information below.

The glitches do not technically affect gameplay, although the polygons
being rendered incorrectly do occasionally obscure vision entirely, and
since the floor of a lot of 64 games is made out of a very small number of
polygons, it can be difficult to tell where the "ground" is. In any case, I
was still able to get to and achieve the first star.

Classic controller is only working after a reconnect to the wii-remote

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Have only a Wii-Remote and the classic controller connected to the Wii
2. Start Wii64 on it

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I Expected that I can control something with the classic controller, e.g.
chose a rom file to load, but instead of that I can press every button I
want, but nothing happens. The N64 logo is still "spinning" and the menu
(load rom..etc..) is showing.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Version is r3xx on the PAL Wii 3.2E

Please provide any additional information below.
It's working after reconnecting the classic controller to the wii-remote.

Graphics and textures suck and Frames Per Second is low.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Running any ROM with the Wii64

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I was expecting a full, almost perfect form of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina
of Time and Super Smash Brothers on the Wii64 as it is on my computer.
However, when I ran Super Smash Brothers on the Wii64, the frame rate was
15 frames per second (as opposed to 60 frames per second on my laptop),
there were missing details(the tornado on the Hyrule stage was gone on the
screen, but I was still sucked up by it), and textures were all messed up
(the menu screen/character selection was all fuzzy and not readable, as
well as the damage percent, stocks, and time; not to mention the
floors/walls of the stage which were undescribablely awkward and totally
screwed up (ie. the main platform of the Hyrule stage appears to move and
not to be stationary, so it moves when you move and looks like an optical
illusion and that when you're magnified at the "almost KO" boundaries of
any stage, the character that's "magnified" suddenly appears in the center
of the screen in giant form until he/she either dies, or becomes
"demagnified")).
Also, on Ocarina of Time, the text and sprites appeared to be fine, but
there were random obstacles in the way when you view your screen (which
made getting the Kokori Sword practically impossible since you couldn't see
the road in front of you (ie. because of random pieces of the surrounding
terrain such as a giant fence in front of your face, or a giant block of
grass terrain)), and the "A" command button, which is supposed to be at the
top of the screen, appears right where you are, so when you're supposed to
be looking at you in the center of the screen, you see the giant "blue
circle" "A" button command, which also makes it impossible to play.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I'm using the Wii64 "Wii Tiizer Edition" for the Nintendo Wii.

Please provide any additional information below.
I know that the Homebrew Channel and other similar channels that use the
Twilight Princess Hack are new, but it would be reeeeeeeeeeally awesome and
great if you guys could make a better, smoother, more realistic version of
the Nintendo 64 emulator, it would be well worth the efforts (as is with
the Visual Boy Advance emulator on the Wii's Homebrew Channel).

Recompiler and malloc issue

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Running Perfect Dark. (and possibly more)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
If using pure interpreter, after a long time you'd see some text from the
actual game. In Dynarec, a malloc free throws a DSI exception.. this is
quite strange.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Start Wii64
2. Load and play a ROM
3. At some point, the emulator should randomly take you back to the Wii64 menu

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to still be playing the game. Instead, it interrupts my game and
brings me back to the menu

What version of the product are you using? On which system and loader?
The unofficial one that has the Wiimote/Nunchuck fix added. I think it was

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Starting the program
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to be able to use the menus.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.0 on the Wii.

Please provide any additional information below.
I can't get the controller to do anything. The N64 logo is up and spinning
and I see the menu fine, just neither the normal controller or controller
with nunchuk do anything. I've tried starting it with several combinations
of controller configurations. Nothing. I can't get it to do anything
besides sit there. I've even reconnected the controller after I ran the
program. The wii remote is connect and the blue light is on on the remote.
Just no movement.

games that run funny throught the emulator

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. loading and playing the roms

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
When I play GoldenEye, the screen is black and crashes the console.
When I play Space Invaders, the screen is black but I can still return to
the emulator menu.
When I play Glover, the screen is black and crashes the console.
When I play EarthWorm Jim, it comes up with a warning (this game is not
designed for use on this system) which freezes console and not allow for
emulator menu reload.
When I play Asteroid Hyper, it comes up with an error of that the
controller is not recoginised.
When I play Zelda 2 majorians mask, it freezes and crashes the console.

Input Very Broken

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Using SVN version 399, attempt to load SM64
2. Have a Wiimote synched, and use the Classic Controller
3. Play the game, and watch as the input is all... wonky.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected output is the ability to control the game in a semi-normal fashion.

Actual results seem to vary. All of the buttons seem to be in a bizzare
state thats either always "Triggered" or "Held", as if the input is not
syncing right with the console's registers when using the wiimote.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I'm playing the wii build, built straight from source revision 399 of the
SVN repository. (Not sure what the actual version number is, but its not an
official release, I downloaded it and compiled it from source today.)

Please provide any additional information below.
When using just a GC controller, it appears to be working just fine, so the
issue is definitely related to the wiimote. Interestingly enough, if you
start the game with the Wiimote and then desync it (or remove the classic
controller, etc) the input is still all weirded out, and you must restart
the emulator (without a wiimote synched) for the input to return to normal.

On a completely unrelated side note, the graphical issues I mentioned
before seem to have been fixed now. Good job!

Patch for libdi support, and experimental zlib support.

This patch will add libdi support, and experimental zlib support to the Wii
branch of mupen64gc. It also fixes some a minor bug in the ISO9660
filesystem and changes some offsets from u32 to u64, making the entire DVD
addressable. It is currently Wii64 only, but this patch should not affect
the GameCube compile process.

Feature Request: Gameshark codes.

Now that Mario 64 and Super Smash Bros. run at a tolerable speed, I think
it would be a good idea to add GameShark support sometime in the future. I
know that getting a good emulator is currently at top priority(that, and
getting Dynarec Recompiler working), but I think you should atleast
concider it once you finnish with the major part.
Also, interpolated sound sounds like crap at half speed. It sounds better
without it. You should consider having an option to remove it.

Dynarec Recompiler Mode causes Violent Crash

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Load SuperMario 64.
2. Select the Dynarec Compiler
3. Play Game

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The expected output is something onscreen, possibly resembling the title of
super mario 64, with stability being iffy within the game at best. The
actual result is a black screen of death, resulting in the inability to
exit the game, requiring a hard reset.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I am using the Wii version, on a fully updated Wii (as of May 26, 2008)

Please provide any additional information below.
The game runs just fine (although slowly, as expected at this early stage)
on interpreter, audio or no audio. It just crashes violently if I attempt
to use Dynarec. I haven't tested it with any other games, as it's my
experience that SM64 is like "Hello World!" for N64 emulation, due to it's

Disable libdi?

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Try to compile Wii64
2. Watch in horror as it fails to load extra stuff

This seems to be a result of adding in support for libdi, now I can't
compile wii64 anymore. I've tried every know method of getting libdi to
install, but it all relies on the "latest" version of libOGC which I can't
for the life of me convince to compile. Sad day.

Is there a way to simply disable libdi for those of us who don't plan to
use the DVD drive features? Perhaps a define somewhere that will disable
it throughout the code so that I could build the latest revision without
it?

Loading the dol file causes the screen to turn green

1. Load the Front SD ELF loader using the twilight hack
2. Load the emulator dol file using the Front SD ELF loader

A listd I see of roms on my sd card. Instead the screen just turns green
and nothing else happens.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I'm using the wii64.tar.bz2 on my north american Wii.

I double checked the file tree on my SD card and everything seems to be in
order. The dol file is placed in the elf directory and both a N64ROMS and
N64SAVES directory are at the root of my SD card. The N64ROMS directory
contains only the GoldenEye 007.z64 file.
