Objective:
The primary objective of using GMSH is to create a discretized model of any surface or volume. However, there is a lot of difficulty in creating meshes that required a lot of coding. Many of the “.geo” files have simple geometries and some have more intensive coding. Most of the .geo files are imported into a VTMS software. The VTMS is a pre-processing tool part of a FEA software package that goes with BSAM.

Tutorial:
The best way to learn how gmsh creates a composite is to look at the compositeplate.geo. It takes a simple block and uses a “For” loop to create a composite for you.

Updates: 7/5/2016
1) Deleted arcan.geo and replaced arcanspecimen.geo.
1.1) Fixes surface creation issuess.

Updates: 7/1/2016
1) Modifications to compositeplate.geo (composite3.geo)
1.1) Modified the extrusion For loop
1.2) Created a physical volume and physical surface to have better boundary conditions for the VTMS architecture.
1.3) Documentation

Updates: 7/1/2016
1) Problems Encounter Ticket 00001 - For Loop Problem for Composite Composites
1.1) Description. Currently for something like a holeinaplate.geo a tolerance has to be put to prevent surface reconstruction problems. Surface problems occur when you open file, which result in a bad mesh as well. There is a fix for this. Currently working on the files.
1.2) Fixing the “For” Loop. To identify the extruded bottom surface. Then use that surface to extrusion until the thickness of the composite is met.
1.3) Advancement for VTMS architecture.

Updates: 6/24/2016
1) Additions: mode_I_crack.geo and wierzbicki.geo
1.1) mode_I_crack.geo and wierzbicki.geo have not been tested for composites. The code is there to test it. Only solid isotropic elastic materials have been studied.
2) dimpleInPlate.geo
2.2) Problems
-Prism elements - It doesn’t always produce hexahedral elements
-Each compound surface has a unique mesh. This poses a problem where node connectivity is required
-There are no periodic boundary conditions for the surface. Although the front surface and the back surface have the same curvature. The mesh doesn’t line up. Period boundary conditions is still being worked through.

Updates: 6/23/2016
1) Deletion: fep-composites.geo, fep-solid-composites.geo, composite-hip.geo.
1.1) Reason: holeinaplate is a combination of all of them.

Updates: 6/22/2016
1) Read Me file creation.
2) Following .geo files include:
