word-syllable-map's Introduction

word-syllable-map

Node.js CI

Version 2.0.0 and later requires at least Node 10.

Provides a one-way map from the words to the syllables they contain, derived from the data in the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary. You can look up the syllables for a word with this.

Installation

npm install word-syllable-map

Usage

Sometime before you use the map, you need to call setUpDatabase to set up a database, like so:

var setUpDatabase = require('word-syllable-map').setUpDatabase;

setUpDatabase(
  {
    dbLocation: __dirname + '/where-you-want-it/a-word-syllable.db'
  },
  done
);

function done(error) {
  if (error) {
    console.log(error)
  }
  else {
    console.log('Successfully set up database.');
  }
}

You only need to do this once.

From then on, you can use the map like this:

var createWordSyllableMap = require('word-syllable-map').createWordSyllableMap;
var wordSyllableMap = createWordSyllableMap({
  dbLocation: __dirname + '/where-you-want-it-/a-word-phoneme.db'
});

wordSyllableMap.syllablesForWord('ABNORMALLY', showSyllables);

function showSyllables(error, syllables) {
  if (error) {
    console.log(error);
  }
  else {
    console.log(syllables);
  }
}

Output:

[
  ['AE', 'B'],
  ['N', 'AO', 'R'],
  ['M', 'AH'],
  ['L', 'IY']
]

Tests

Run tests with make test.

word-syllable-map's Issues

error

Hello, I have never used nodejs before so if this is noobish, don't hesitate to say. But when I ran it just as you said, once the database is setup, I recieved this when the second block of code ran: err: IO error: lock /app/base.db/LOCK: already held by process. Please help as this is just what I am looking for.
