There is an urban legend of a programmer working for a bank back in the days when banks rounded down interest paid on accounts to the nearest cent. This programmer calculated the interest to the to 18th decimal place and transferred the shortfall to an account he controlled. This averaged out to ½ cent for each payment. After several years the bank found out, but were too embarrassed to tell anybody, so the programmer retired a rich men. Now there is a calculation called banker’s rounding which eliminates this scam.

I did create this issue as a joke, but it was based on the scam that Richard Pryor's character pulled in Superman 4.
