git_remote_branch_thorified's Introduction

==== Git Remote Branch Thorified ====

This is a pointless project. I wanted to try out thor (http://github.com/wycats/thor) and so I decided to rewrite the excellent git_remote_branch (http://github.com/webmat/git_remote_branch) by Mathieu Martin with it.

It lacks these features from git_remote_branch:
- explain command
- it does not output the command being executed
- absolutely no tests. Use at your own risk
- no alias for commands

It requires more keystrokes:
grb create branch vs. thor grb:create branch

It however provides all the cool features that thor ..hum.. provides. I'm not exactly sure what these are yet, but I'll guess:
- no need for options parsing code
- no need to create a gem

==== Installation ====

- gem install thor
- thor install http://github.com/jfcouture/git_remote_branch_thorified/tree/master/git_remote_branch.rb?raw=true

==== Help ====

- thor list

=== Explanation of command (from git_remote_branch) ===
== create ==
Create a new local branch as well as a corresponding remote branch from the
branch you are currently on.
Automatically track the new remote branch (useful for pulling and merging).
Switch to the new branch.

$ thor grb:create branch_name [origin_server]

== publish ==
Publish an existing local branch to the remote server.
Set up the local branch to track the new remote branch.
Switch to the new branch.

$ thor grb:publish branch_name [origin_server]

== delete (aliases: destroy, kill, remove) ==
Delete the remote branch then delete the local branch.
The local branch is not deleted if there are pending changes.

$ thor grb:delete branch_name [origin_server]

== track (aliases: follow grab fetch) ==
Track an existing remote branch locally.

$ thor grb:track branch_name [origin_server]

== rename (aliases: rn, mv, move) ==
To rename the branch you're currently on.
Rename the remote branch by copying then deleting the old name.
Checkout a new local tracking branch with the new name and delete the local
branch with the old name.

$ thor grb:rename branch_name [origin_server]
