Right now, we are using GitHub Markdown and github page to generate the page.
It was the fastest way to get started since everything is "built in".

Over time, it would be nice to separate data from the presentation.

I don't know if there is a lightweight solution to extract the data in yml file and present the data with simple templating?
Anyone with knowledge to setup something like this can jump in and help! It's important to remember this must be 100% in GitHub so it needs to work with github action and be hosted on GitHub page.
