ForwardProxy

Minimal forward proxy using 150LOC and only standard libraries. Useful for development, testing, and teaching.

  • Configurable client connection thread pool and timeout.

Installation

Add this line to your application's Gemfile:

gem 'forward-proxy'

And then execute:

$ bundle install

Or install it yourself as:

$ gem install forward-proxy

Usage

CLI

forward-proxy
Usage: forward-proxy [options]
    -p, --port=PORT                  Bind to specified port. Default: 9292
    -b, --binding=BINDING            Bind to the specified ip. Default: 127.0.0.1
    -t, --timeout=TIMEOUT            Specify the connection timeout in seconds. Default: 300
    -c, --threads=THREADS            Specify the number of client threads. Default: 128
    -h, --help                       Prints this help.

Library

proxy.start

Development

After checking out the repo, run bin/setup to install dependencies. Then, run rake test to run the tests. You can also run bin/console for an interactive prompt that will allow you to experiment.

To install this gem onto your local machine, run bundle exec rake install. To release a new version, update the version number in version.rb, and then run bundle exec rake release, which will create a git tag for the version, push git commits and tags, and push the .gem file to rubygems.org.

Thank you and Dockerfile

Thank you for writing this small bare bone to the essentials forward proxy. I learned a lot from it.

Further, I guess it would be nice if there's a Dockerfile and the image is pulled to docker so that ruby is not required to run it. I will see if I can spare some time to submit a PR.
