transfer's Introduction

prgmTRANSFER v0.0.4b

This software is still in beta, no liability for corrupted or lost files, etc!

An MTP-based variable transfer program for the TI-84+ CE and TI-83 Premium CE calculators. Running this program on the calculator will allow you to transfer variable files between a Windows 10/Ubuntu 20.04/Android with preinstalled software, or other OSes with various PTP or MTP transfer software.

Known Working Computer OSes

  • Windows 10 using the default file explorer, check under Computer after connecting.
  • Ubuntu 20.04 using the default Gnome Files (nautilus) or Dolphin.
  • Android 11 using the builtin Files application, check notifications after connecting to open.

Installation

  1. Send TRANSFER.8xp release and nightly clibs.8xg from usbdrvce branch to your calculator using other transfer software.
  2. Run Asm(prgmTRANSFER) and then plug-and-play with a usb cable to supported OSes, or using supported software.
  3. The screen should display a debug log that can be ignored unless things go wrong, in which case the last few lines should be reported if there is an issue.
  4. Press clear to exit.

Implemented MTP Features

  • Sending variable files from computer to calculator in either RAM or Archive or file default.
  • Receiving variable files from the calculator RAM or Archive to the computer.
  • Deleting calculator variables from RAM or Archive.
  • Moving variables directly between RAM and Archive.
  • Sending or receiving calculator operating systems.
  • Sending, receiving, or deleting calculator applications.
  • Receiving a rom dump.
  • Copying variables in either RAM or Archive to another name in either RAM or Archive.
  • Getting free space in RAM or Archive.
  • Getting the current time.
  • Setting the current time.
  • Getting the current battery level.
  • Getting a device icon for displaying in MTP program UIs.
  • Optimize for a smaller program size.

transfer's Issues

Calculator won't connect to PC

When I plug in my TI-84 PCE, I first get a cycle of a random assortment of 7, 8, 9, and 10 events for up to 5 seconds. Afterwards, I get a constant cycle of 9 events.

EDIT: I'm running Windows 10. My calc is running OS 5.7.0.0017. This happens when I use Cesium, ASMHOOK, or ArTIfiCE.

There's no protection for copying special files.

Special files such as #.8xp !.8xp and ..8xy can be moved from the RAM to the Archive. If the user does this, the calculator gets into a boot loop that can only be fixed by clearing the Archive and re-installing the OS.

Instructions are unclear during garbage collection.

While attempting to transfer an appvar to the Archive of my TI-84 Plus CE rev M on OS 5.4.0 using Transfer 0.0.4, I received this screen:
image

The transfer stopped and I thought the calculator was frozen. After I did a RAM reset, the appvar was on the calculator but in the RAM instead of the Archive. When I opened TI Connect CE and sent another file to the Archive, the calculator immediately started garbage collecting.

Although I now know the screen was normal and that pressing [enter] then [clear] would likely have fixed it, this was not obvious at the time. It would be useful to have Transfer automatically garbage collect when necessary, or instruct the user on what to do when the screen appears.

USB mass storage > mtp

Is there any way to convert this project into using the much more widely accepted USB mass storage standard instead of MTP?

Transfer

I have a Ti-84 plus CE with OS 5.4, and I can not send anything over 10 KB, or my calculator crashed.

Bundles do not work

When I try to send a bundle, I get the following:

event: 0
event: 2
event: 4
event: 1
event: 2
event: 4
response: A809

And explorer.exe crashes,

OS is Windows 11. (calc is 5.6.1, using AsmHook)

Transfer not working with several devices

Unfortunately I couldn't get this working with either of my CE's (revision pre-A and revision M running OS 5.3.0 on both) even after a RAM clear.
For Windows 10 Home (20H2) the log says

event: 1
event: 2
event: 4
error: 677700 (sometimes appears, sometimes not.)

Whether I get error: 677700 or not, the behavior is the same. I hear the 'device connected' sound, but nothing shows up in file explorer. I checked TI-Connect CE, it doesn't recognize that a calculator is connected which is good I think. I don't see the calculator anywhere in device manager so I'm not sure how to fix it.

After unplugging it, then plugging it back in and leaving it connected for a while I got
error: DE7700

I couldn't get it working on my Galaxy S3 with Android 4.4.2 since it only recognized the calculator as a camera. I don't know if that's the program's fault or Android 4 just being old. Nothing was logged to the screen.
It also didn't work on my LG Phoenix 4 with Android 8.1. Although it recognized the calculator was a storage device, it didn't do anything when I tapped on the notification and I couldn't find it in the Files app. I got a log though

error: 677700
event: 1
event: 2
event: 4
