volume2's Issues

Scrolling Volume2 options' lists activates Windows many-key-presses warning

Normally, when four keys (or more) are pressed at the same time, Windows plays a beep sound.
But when I opened Volume2 options and tried to scroll OSD or system tray skins, keyboard actions or languages, the mouse cursor starts hanging when I move the mouse, the many-key-presses beep sound is played if you scroll fast enough and Volume2 CPU usage increases.
Scrolling through version history doesn't cause any problems, though.
Any ideas?

Rotating mouse on taskbbar volume change problem for Win10 when a metro app is active

I use the option to change volume when scrolling mouse wheel on the taskbbar quite a lot on Windows 7.

But now on Windows 10, when a metro app (MS Store apps, the new Setting screen, and even the Start screen) is active, the volume would change dramatically (from 0 to 80 on a 100-scale) whenever I scroll the mouse wheel just 1 notch on the taskbar. It's crazy.

I think the problem is that metro apps take control of the mousewheel for its accelerated inertia scrolling. The evidence can be seen by trying to scroll the mousewheel on a metro apps and then move the mouse on the taskbar, you can see the volume start to change by the inertia scrolling algorithm generated from the metro apps.

This also happens on IE11 for some reason too, but rarely.

HiDPI

On high resolution displays with resolution scaling, OSDs are too small. For example, on 3840x2196 with 200% scaling on Windows 10, OSDs should be 2x their normal size and appear the same size as if the resolution was set to 1920x1080.

[request] Run schedule when Volume2 start up

I have a couple software tools that I schedule in Volume2 to start at night around ~9pm. It works great, but the problem is that when I restart Windows,I have to manually open those tools.
It would be great if Volume2 could process its schedule at program start up. Now it should only start those entry in the schedule if it matches a time interval specify in each entry.

Popup volume pane misbehaves with arrows, pageup/down, mouse, and Volume2 hotkeys

In the settings, I have set a fixed volume changing speed. When I click the tray icon and use arrows and page-up/down, neither uses the step specified in the options.

Setting the volume by mouse does not respect the step set in the settings, instead allowing unsnapped input.

When I use the Volume2 increase/decrease hotkeys when the panel is open, the step size is no longer constant, though still less than the native Windows control.

Odd behavior related to Realtek drivers: When I click on the icon, the bell causes the volume to decrease. The displayed value remains, but I have to increase the volume to fix this.

(When I press the Windows volume slider, the bell either becomes louder or quieter after the beginning of the ding. All audio sources also have cut-off or too-loud beginnings. When I toggle "disable all sound effects" in Windows sound -> Speakers properties -> enhancements, the messed-up beginnings disappear.)

Volume no longer changes after RDP session

When I RDP into a machine I see Volume2 is now controlling "Remote Audio" correctly. But when I log back into the machine locally the mouse wheel brings up the OSD normally but the volume doesn't actually change. Restarting Volume2 fixes it.

Not sure if it happens every time but it happens regularly.

Windows 8.1. Volume2 1.1.5.361.

Permanently disables Win10 Volume notificiation icon

I purposefully ran the portable version of Volume2 so it doesn't mess up my Win10 install. Somehow, Volume2 still inadvertently removed the system tray icon; with no way to put it back. Currently, the Win10 notification icon is grayed out if I try to turn it on via the Win10 settings GUI.

Please let me know how to restore the Win10 notification icon back.

Thanks!

Multiple "Rotating a mouse wheel (on screen)"

I used to use Mousevolume with has the Right mouse down + scroll function, which I thought wasn't supported on previous version (maybe I'm wrong here and couldn't find it at that time).

Always has CTRL + ALT + Scroll, and Right mouse button down + Scroll, but 2 options is not possible. Can you make this possible? Thanks in advance.

Can't increase volume using F12 key

Using version 1.1.5.361 (28.12.2015)

Using Windows 10 enterprise 64bit and a qwerty mac keyboard.
Assigning F12 key as 'volume up' doesn't work.
Worked ok using previous version.

OSD Background option

It would be nice to replace transparent background with a solid / transparent color of our choice.
It's hard to see the text indicator sometimes.

Also the text drawing is very crispy, no anti-aliasing, which makes fonts look unreadable.

Scheduling issues after updated to latest version (1.1.5.397)

I updated to version 1.1.5.397 and it's causing a few issues with the scheduling behaviors.

  1. When I replaced the old Volume2.exe with the latest version, Volume2 does not start correctly and get stuck in a loop causing high cpu usage. It has something to do with existing Schedules.ini file. If I delete the Schedules file, it will start up correctly.

  2. In the previous versions, schedules that are configured to run with the option "Every" also get executed when starting up Volume2. However in this latest version, they do not. Unless you changed this behavior, please change it back. If it's a bug, need fixing.

An option to make the Peak Meter an actual "Peak Meter"

Right now the "Peak Meter" acts like a somewhat faster VU meter. Since I imagine its function is a bit more decorative than functional, making act like an actual peak meter (instant falloff and no averaging) would make it more pleasing and dynamic.

Timed scheduling won't work if computer is sleeping/off at the scheduled time

I have setup two schedules:

  1. set volume to 80 at 08:00
  2. set volume to 35 at 22:00

They both work fine as long as the computer is running at the scheduled time else they won't woke.
I tried to set both to activate upon wake up. That seems to work - but only for one of the schedule and I can't work out which one will click in. It could be the first one or it could be the second one which is understandable since I have two active schedules at the same condition.

I notice that you can specify a time range (Starting at and Ending at) for "every", "every minute" and "every hour" but not "every day" and " on wake up". While every hour seems too long (imagine waking up at night with a large volume and have to wait for an hour to have the vol turn down, I would set the vol manually which defeats the purpose of scheduling), every minute seems too intrusive.

It would be best if I can setup wake up schedules at different time periods e.g

  1. set volume to 80 upon wake up and time is between 08:00 to 21:59
  2. set volume to 35 upon wake up and time is between 22:00 to 07:59
  3. and these will also activate at 08:00 and 23:00 if the computer is running at those times. But I guess setting two more schedules just like the original two can easily "fix" this point.

I am at Version 1.1.4.347 (10.08.2015)

Inaccuracies when changing volume (logarithmic)

Occasionally, when I try to change volume, the volume skips steps.

I'm using logarithmic mode with 20 steps [0..20], and changing volume through keyboard shortcuts. It just happened from 40% to 50%.

I think the problem is that, a while after changing volume, you discard the locally stored volume level. When I change the volume afterwards, it recomputes the current numeric value from the system volume, rounds incorrectly, then sets it wrong.

Play sound on mouse click.

Ok, this is a bit of an odd request. But is it possible if you could add an option to play a sound file when clicking the mouse buttons? I ask this because on certain laptop touchpad, it's often not clear if a mouse tap is registered. By playing a sound file (clicking sound for example) would give you that feedback.

I've found an old program that does this: http://www.leeos.com/noisy_mouse.html
However, it's very old and doesn't work correctly on Window 7+

Feature request: Set default Windows audio volume on startup

Sound volume on Windows startup might sometimes be unpredictable (too loud, too low).

If possible, it would be great if Vol2 could set a preset volume for the default sound device when Vol2 starts up. Vol2 would be the perfect utility to do this, if programmatically possible.

BSOD (win32kfull.sys) on dragging items - only when Volume² is running, in Windows 10 FCU

This is a tough one, but I think there's enough evidence to suggest Volume² is involved.

After upgrading to the Windows 10 Fall Creator's Update, certain drag/drop operations (for some, dragging items on desktop or in file folders; for others, dragging selected text in Chrome, or dragging objects inside Adobe Illustrator) cause a Blue Screen of Death: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, culprit driver Win32Kfull.sys.

In my case, this only occurs if Volume² is running. (In my case, v. 1.1.5.382). Running Volume² as Administrator or not appears to make no difference.

Other reports of this issue:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance/systemserviceexception-win32kfullsys/a84467d3-b7a7-44c7-98ea-c6f14271f17c?messageId=29b3bafb-f36e-4fb7-9b1f-34753f62890b

https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/7blljr/bsod_win32kfullsys_system_service_exception_when/

Any ideas on why Volume² would have any interaction with drag/drop events on the desktop or in other programs?

Some reports indicate that downgrading to v. 1.1.4.347 seems to solve the issue - any idea what changed in Volume² after that point that would cause this?

I appreciate any attention you can devote to this issue - I use Volume² dozens, if not hundreds, of times per day, and would hate to lose it!

Thanks.

Windows 10 - When set to "Active Application" Volume2 Does Not Control UWP (Windows Store) App Volume

When running any UWP app on Windows 10 FCU (possibly other versions too), Volume2 does not change volume for these apps when "Change Volume For" is set to "Active Application". It just flashes the current master volume level in the OSD, but it does not change the volume for the UWP app. It only works for traditional win32 apps. This occurs regardless of method -- screen edge/mouse wheel, over taskbar, or keyboard shortcuts specifically set to the Volume Up/Down (Active application).

Can Volume2 control these apps? I have only recently been forced to upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7, and the volume controls on Windows 10 really makes me hate it, and I was hoping Volume2 would continue to be the ultimate volume control, but it just doesn't work with UWP apps on Windows 10, which is very sad.

This applies to both the stable version 1.1.5_404 as well as the beta 1.1.6_410. Thank you for your great app and help in this matter.

enter in RGB for color selector

currently the OSD color selector uses a point-and-click color selector which does not allow for exact color selection. can you add numeric RGB entry?

Volume2.exe - Bad Image

"The application or DLL C:\Windows\system32\dxva2.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

I don't know why it's looking in C: (Windows 7) because I installed the program from D: which is where the OS I normally use is installed.

I can still use the program I just have to click OK to close the box then the program opens and works fine.

64-bit

Please offer 64-bit verson of the software, thank you.

hotkey for "Set Next Default Device" dosen't work

I use Win + Num0 for "Set Next Defalut Device", and it doesn't work. OSD doesn't show up, and default device doesn't change.
But set the hot key to "Volume up", it works sell. So I think there is no hotkey conflict, the problem may be belongs to "Set Next Default Device" function.

By the wary, the same hotkey works on Volume2 v1.1.4.347, although the OSD doesn't show up too.
My OS is win10 64-bit.

changing the brightness doesn't really change the brightness

1.1.5.399
changing the brightness with hotkeys only sets a semi-transparent layer across the screen which disappears shortly after setting the brightness, also the cursor brightness doesn't change accordingly.
In the Win 7 power saving settings the screen brightness setting doesn't change either.

Individual device Hooks

Is it possible to hook a USB devices controls to a certain Soundcard?

Previously, my Volume2 application would not adjust my USB headset but instead, it would adjust the speakers (which is what I wanted!).

The USB headset controller would just adjust the USB headset volume within Windows, however, after a fresh install, it adjusts the default device again which is my speakers.

Add "After closing application" depedency on schedule

Nice piece of software.
Love the schedule capability but it would be nice if it also had "After closing apliction" option.
EX: When I open a game I want my master volume to go at 30% and when I close the game I want the volume to automaticaly revert to what it was before or at least at a value that I want to set it.
Also the possiblity to add multiple aplication to a schedule instead of only one would be nice.

USB Device Connected Disconnected

Hi! I have just installed Volume2 in Windows 10 (x64) and immediately after launch started appearing a non-stopping "Device Connected/Disconnected" notification.

  • Tried rebooting Windows but didn´t fix it;
  • Tried unplugging and plugging again all the USB devices, didn´t fix as well.

It ""solves"" if I disable the "USB Devices notifications", but I would like to keep this Volume2 functionality.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Disable/Enable screen edge with hotkey

It would be nice if we had that
I would like disable it during a game (like FPS) but not when we look a fullscreen video, or other video game with a cursor

Icon step -1 and unusable when HiDPI and missing resolution

1.1.5 build 382, Windows 10 x64

My favorite system tray skin, DigitalBlue, as well as some other skins, have a recommended "volume speed" of -1. They do not load properly and fail to replace the previous systray icon. If Volume2 is restarted, the default icon (blue wedge) remains.

Main Window geometry gets truncated; unresizable

Windows 7. Multiple monitors, multiple office locations (varying types of multi-monitors. Volume2 v 1.1.5.377

When double-clicking to bring up main options windows, eventually the window only shows a few lines and cannot be resized. See screenshot. Workaround: uninstall/reinstall.

Trackpad scroll to change volume stopped working

I have an HP Elitebook with a Synaptics trackpad, running Windows 10. The trackpad uses two-finger dragging for scrolling. Until a week or so ago, I was able to do a two-finger drag over the taskbar to change the volume in Volume2 (1.1.4), but then it stopped working. Scrolling still works with this method in other applications. I tried updating to V2 1.1.5, but that didn't help. Also tried updating to latest Synaptics driver from HP website.

Could this maybe be a change in the way in which two-finger dragging is reported to Volume2?

Make visual effects optional

Problem 1
Single-clicking Volume2 opens Volume bar with a half second delay.
Example: in qBittorrent, when you click tray icon with mouse, it opens the window immediately (no delay).

Problem 2
Volume bar hides very slowly, I want to disable that fade effect (transparency) completely.

skins - disable fade-in delay

In beta versions, you gave each skin a different fade-in time. This makes them difficult to use because I can no longer instantly see the volume as I adjust it.

Can you add an option to disable fade-in for skins?

CPU Usage and memory

Win 7 x64

Does it seem normal that Vol2 uses a minimum of 0.3% cpu constantly - while the system is idle ?

I can understand it reaching ~3% while actually changing volume but it just appears a little high when idle and under light system usage (moving the mouse, opening windows etc) it fluctuates between 0.4 and 0.8% - without changing any volume controls.

and also ~25 megabytes of memory ?

I`m just worried that there might be some kind of conflict with my specific setup/PC
