cs371p-oop-collatz's Issues
Addition 8: Recursive eval. [DONE]
First step of getting to a more advanced cache, recursion, which enables the idea of "caching along the way".
Requirement 10: Submission [DONE]
Codes in the private repo should be ready to go.
Have not turned in using Turnin System yet.
Addition 9: (Bug) when using array as cache, segmentation fault. [FIXED]
still working on it
Addition 5: Cache size optimization [CONSIDER OTHERS]
The current cache is an array of 1,000,000 elements.
Requirement 1: Github account [CREATED]

Addition 3: Zip file [CREATED]

Requirement 6: Acceptance Tests [UPLOADED]
Requirement 5: Unit Tests [UPLOADED]
Requirement 4: Issue Tracker [DONE]
10 Requirements: NOT YET DONE
10 Additional issues: NOT YET DONE
Addition 1: Collatz.log [DONE]
Not yet created yet.
Requirement 2: Sphere account [CREATED]

Requirement 3: Private repository [DONE]

Addition 10: Implementing the cache with unordered_map [FAILED]
Using an array of 1,000,000 elements is a serious waste of memory, therefore, I am considering of using an unordered_map as the cache, which might reduce the size of the cache.
Addition 4: Running time optimization [SOLVED]
Currently it takes more than 1 minute to produce RunCollatz.out.
There should be a way to optimize it.
Addition 2: README.txt [DONE]
Not yet finished yet
Requirement 8: Sphere [4073 DONE]

Requirement 9: Documentation [DONE]
Addition 6: Calculation optimization. [DONE]
n + (n >> 1) + 1 = (3*n+1)/2
n >> 1 = n/2
n % 2 == 1 = n & 1
Addition 7: Using stack to cache. [ABANDONED]
Idea: when evaluating the cycle length of a particular number, push each results into a stack, the size of the stack (n) will then become the cycle length.
then, pop each number out, which has cycle length from 1 all the way to n.
Requirement 7: Implementation Details [DONE]
The cache is complete.
Assertions not yet added yet.
