Default color scheme for tone

(These defaults can be changed by the user)
If tone is not linked to structure (topics)
Apply up to four colors in this order:

  1. rgba(243,49,0,1)
  2. rgba(255,120,0,1)
  3. rgba(135,202,72,1)
  4. rgba(127,163,232)

If tone is linked to structure
Apply these three colors by topic:

  1. rgba(181,0,0,1)
  2. rgba(46,53,98,1)
  3. rgba(41,35,27,1)

Those three colors are applied with diminishing transparency levels (4) to tone: 1, .7, .5, .3

Scope of ring creation, colors

Right now, the "Annulus" button creates an annulus assembled from every highlight on the entire document. Should the annulus be made from all of the highlights in a particular partition? Or even just a particular section?

Additionally, each section right now has its own color/category scheme. Is this the appropriate scope for colors/categories?

Build action

I ran the Annulus app with the loaded demo data as well as article 6 (more actions) and it looks great. In building the graph, the effect we want to convey is that the next action pushes the current action out. The way it builds now, the full extent is defined and the subsequent actions fill in. The kind of action we want to communicate through this visual is a forceful debate where the next person takes the floor, pushing the previous action out toward the edge.

sample data

Alex, you'll see that there are some anomalies in the data files I uploaded. This is the reality of the complexity of the data, so I have left it in for the moment. We may ultimately want to use something like breve to help people resolve/refine data uploaded.
In the meantime, you have some data to work with that includes a couple of different attributes that can be assigned colors. At this stage, just work on the assigning of color. Next week we can refine the specification for how to apply more complex colors and values.

Sample data

I've added an xml file in /data/Volume8/ to be parsed for use as a sample data set.

There are three . The first one has the session texts. Each is a session, so each can be treated as a # Partition. The following each can be the Partition title. The next meaningful break is the which defines each speaker. can become ## H2 with the subsequent as that H2 title. After that there are mostly just

s.

Ignore the second and third .

Annulus viewer

One next step to consider is a viewer (grid) where we can drop the svg and scale the rings to the same radial length for comparison.
