trikka-discussion's Introduction

trikka-discussion

This place if for discussing the Trikka platform, which enables "modular products from open multi-use parts".

This place is not "officially" operated by Trikka. It is meant as a test bed to explore community interactions.

Please participate if you have an interest in Trikka. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

"I am not a programmer, I have no clue how to use Git"

No worries, please! This place uses the Issues feature of GitHub, which can be used "stand-alone" without touching Git at all! If you are familiar with disussion forums, Issues should be fairly intuitive to use -- just stick to the basic functionality when you start out. If you feel like it, you can try more advanced stuff (like adding labels) later on.

how to participate

On the left top-bar, click on Issues. You will see a list of discussion items:

  • Comment on an existing one that is of interest to you by clicking on it. In the Issue, scroll down to the bottom of the page and use the text box.
  • Create a new discussion item by creating a new issue. Above the list, at the top right click on วธew issue`. Just fill in the title and use the text box, ignore the other stuff.

๐Ÿ’ก For a text box, use the Preview tab to see the final formatting of your post. Then switch back to the Write tab.

โ“ More information about the Issues functionality can be found in the documentation.

043.1 M10 Plastic nuts & bolts: Eichhorn Constructor or generic screw?

https://trikka.house/parts/043-1/

Since I am hoping to use this part in one of my designs, I would like to clarify: Does this screw refer to the Eichhorn Constructor screw(s), or is it meant as an example of a more generic (DIN/ISO) screw?

I understand that the part is not fully documented yet. Just wanted to raise this issue early on. Perhaps this gives an incentive to give this part more thought and more priority... ๐Ÿ˜„

As a side note, the Eichhorn Constructor screws are not truly M10, I believe. They definitely have a coarser threading (~2.5mm) than the typical norm screws (1.5mm or 1mm), so you can not mix and match nuts and bolts.

Add Eichhorn Constructor parts

The Open Design Lamps made me aware of Eichhorn Constructor and since I found them very useful I would like to see them in the parts catalog.

What do the Trikka "custodians" think of this? Would it be a good thing to include the "standard/generic" Constructor parts? I am primarily thinking of the beams (1x3, 1x4, 1x5, 1x6), the "cube" (1x1x1) and the screws of various length, nuts and washers. These parts even adhere to the 3Grid!?

I like it that they can be easily purchased and are not too expensive, but there is only a single source. On the other hand, it is not too difficult to make the beams. In effect, a design with Constructor parts should be fairly easy to transform into DIY/norm parts. (Indeed, I think it would be fun to show both versions of such a design! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ)

Yeah, it seems that a screw already made it into the catalog!?: #3

What about 3D-printed parts?

Just wondering, I believe I have not seen 3D-printed parts in the parts catalog (yet).

Should these parts be treated as ordinary (DIY) parts, or do these parts require special handling?

(One reason for asking this: I have a lamp design that uses a 3D-printed lamp shade. This makes the lamp customizable with many 3D-printed shades, as long has the shade observes a few geometric constraints.)
