facebook-template-php's Introduction

Facebook/Heroku sample app -- PHP

This is a sample app showing use of the Facebook Graph API, written in PHP, designed for deployment to Heroku.

Run locally

Configure Apache with a VirtualHost that points to the location of this code checkout on your system.

Create an app on Facebook and set the Website URL to your local VirtualHost.

Copy the App ID and Secret from the Facebook app settings page into your VirtualHost config, something like:

<VirtualHost *:80>
    DocumentRoot /Users/adam/Sites/myapp
    ServerName myapp.localhost
    SetEnv FACEBOOK_APP_ID 12345
    SetEnv FACEBOOK_SECRET abcde
</VirtualHost>

Restart Apache, and you should be able to visit your app at its local URL.

Deploy to Heroku via Facebook integration

The easiest way to deploy is to create an app on Facebook and click Cloud Services -> Get Started, then choose PHP from the dropdown. You can then git clone the resulting app from Heroku.

Deploy to Heroku directly

If you prefer to deploy yourself, push this code to a new Heroku app on the Cedar stack, then copy the App ID and Secret into your config vars:

heroku create --stack cedar
git push heroku master
heroku config:add FACEBOOK_APP_ID=12345 FACEBOOK_SECRET=abcde

Enter the URL for your Heroku app into the Website URL section of the Facebook app settings page, hen you can visit your app on the web.

facebook-template-php's Issues

Canvas blank after fixing "Incorrect Padding" error

I had the error described here, and I fixed it the way described here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10252503/heroku-python-facebook-app-incorrect-padding-error

Now, when I access my app at #myappname#.herokuapp.com it works fine,
but when I access it at http://apps.facebook.com/#mynamspace#, the canvas is blank.

When I go backwards and change this:

data = json.loads(urlsafe_b64decode(str(encoded_data[1]) + (64-len(encoded_data[1])%64)*"="))

back to this:

data = json.loads(urlsafe_b64decode(str(encoded_data[1])))

then the error I had in the beginning is printed on the canvas (at least the canvas is not mysteriously blank). How to fix this?

Clone repo including sdk

I've followed the instructions in the Readme to git clone the repo after creating the Facebook app through its interface. The problem is that the folder named "sdk" in my local copy is empty! In this way, I can't do a local development of the application.

How can I do fetch the repo including the "sdk" folder?

Out Dated

Please Update To The Latest Release Of Facebook SDK As This Is OutDated and Not A Single site On The Internet Is Helpfull To Create App On Facebook.

500 Internal Server Error

I get 500 Internal Server Error when after I create a facebook app. It displays the page and after an auto refresh it shows 500 Internal Server Error

App not running as a canvas

It runs well as a standalone app, but when I try to run it as a canvas app (following the instructions here: http://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/configuring-your-facebook-app-as-a-canvas-page) I always get an "Invalid Credentials" error message and then I get redirected to the app domain in heroku, where it seems to work.

I have tried disabling the latest patch (enforcing HTTPS in production) but it doesn't seem to help.

Please let me know if there're any diagnostics you want me to run on the app.
