I've confirm to build on Ubuntu 16.04.
Show error message.

No error message, but a file called etc/apache2/mods-avalaible/markdown.load
with the contents (adjust to point to the mod.so ELF file is located).
LoadModule markdown_module /opt/misc/apache-mod-markdown/mod_markdown.so
( /opt/misc is while I put mine, I followed the recommendations in the original post, if you were to want to post the package for consideration to the debian repository some other directory may or may not be required)
And file called /etc/apache2/mods-avalaible/mardown.conf
which can be empty is required for the a2enmod
and a2dismod
commands to work. When these files are in place and the LoadModule directive is configured the user can
sudo a2enmod markdown
to load the extension, or
sudo a2dismod markdown
to disable the extension.
This is how all apache2 modules that are available in the debian repository (and thus also in the Ubuntu repository) work. For other distributions other directories may be required.

This is matter of each distribution packaging.
Yes, I'm using debian, so I wrote markdown.load.
Whatβs the issue you think?
