Humans aren't resources.
Heard from Kieran at TriNet. We're still getting the team off the ground, but it could be fun and interesting to figure out how to offer benefits to people working on Gittip.
When working with a PEO, your company enters into a shared employment relationship. The PEO becomes the "Employer of Record” and is responsible for payroll and payroll tax compliance, benefits administration, workers' compensation, processing unemployment claims, and other HR-related administrative tasks. Your company remains the "Worksite Employer" and continues to retain day-to-day control and direction of the worksite employees.
I propose that Zeta Design & Development, LLC DBA Gittip.com hire Joonas Bergius as a part-time software engineer. (Note that this relationship will not prevent Joonas from pursuing other employment relationships as well.)

Joonas was the first person to respond to the Gittip is Hiring post of six weeks ago. He did so by joining the #gittip IRC channel and starting to contribute code. Since then Joonas has become the second-most-prolific contributor, with 50 commits to date. His specific accomplishments for Gittip include:
Joonas has, in my view, amply demonstrated his commitment to Gittip and his competence as an engineer, and he has agreed to let me propose that we hire him.
As a part-time software engineer, Joonas will be given:
This is in addition to the privileges that @joonas already enjoys as a member of the "www.gittip.com" team in the zetaweb organization on GitHub, which has access to change the www.gittip.com repo and manage issues in the issue tracker.
Joonas will be charged with:
Zeta is an open company, one of the hallmarks of which is that it doesn't compensate its owners and employees. If you appreciate Joonas's work, then I encourage you to include him in your giving on Gittip.
This proposal is open to input from the wider Gittip community. We'll make a final decision after a period of discussion.
I propose that we hire Luke Strickland (@clone1018) as a Community Advocate for both Gittip and Aspen.
Luke was the second person to apply to work for Gittip, before we started this humans
repo. Here is Luke's original application:
https://github.com/zetaweb/www.gittip.com/issues/456
He is active in both of our IRC channels on Freenode (#gittip and #aspen) and is competent as an IRC op. He's also been known to reach out to Gittip and Aspen users on other IRC channels as well as on Twitter. He also wrote the Gittip-Everywhere Chrome extension, which we've already adopted as our official browser extension.
As a Community Advocate, Luke will be given:
+ASRfiorstv
on #aspen and #gittip on Freenode. That means he'll have all permissions on both channels, and will also be marked a "successor", meaning he'll be promoted to a "founder" of these channels in the event that my account (whit537) is deleted.Luke will be charged with:
If Luke accepts this proposal, then we'll invite input from the wider Gittip community via Twitter. We'll make a final decision by consensus of all Zetaweb collaborators.
Stub ticket for now so I can send out the Monday Morning Missive. Proposal is that we give @wyze access to Sentry and Heroku so he can help with production.
Kim is working on gttp.co, our static widget server, and I propose that we bring her on as a contractor and give her access to manage deployments for gttp.co.
Proposed: Hire @abnor as a Public Relations/Graphic Design (Communications) Assistant
Hello!
My resume is pretty expansive so I'll just generalize my experiences.
I am a communications major with a love for IT and CS. I have a ton of experience with journalism-type tasks, such as digging up contact information and reaching out to all kinds of professionals. I have a knack for technical writing and guides, including putting together manuals (sketching and graphic art), or ripping them apart and explaining technical terms to live audiences (not afraid of public speaking).
I have experience using HTML/CSS back in 2007, but only have basic skills in using python, ruby, java, and C since 2010. It is my goal to catch up to html5/css3, javascipt (and android app dev), in addition to playing with R (I LOVE infographs! blog.okcupid.com).
I could help with the PR side of things, like to drive gittip towards a wider audience. I've got ideas churning in my head about tweaking layout, making text more user-friendly, and more aesthetic. I also see potential in using paypal accounts and other professional sites used to bring people together, like linked-in.
The more I visit the website the more excited I get about the idea of a generous community donating to selfless individuals. I'm also a bit of a philosopher in addition to enjoying deconstructing societal concepts and breaking down behaviors to their basic biological form. I just really want to get involved in this!
