Thanks for opening the issue with detailed context.

I can look into making this work out of the box like in the apollo client, but I cannot give an ETA for that.

In the meantime, I think a better workaround is to tell the cache your actual root subscription type via a Type Policy.

Typically, a schema has the following root types:

schema {
    query: Query
    mutation: Mutation
    subscription: Subscription
}

and this is what the Cache assumes if no additional configuration is given.

However, if your schema looks like this for example:

schema {
    query: RootQueryType
    mutation: RootMutationType
    subscription: RootSubscriptionType
}

you can add this configuration to your cache:

  typePolicies: {
       'RootSubscriptionType': TypePolicy(subscriptionType: true),
  }

This should fix your issues with a custom subscription type, I think.
