Talking about Reggio Nell'Emilia is that not a lot of people know that the correct name is "Reggio nell'Emilia", many Italians used to call it simply "Reggio Emilia" ... because it's simple and easier.
From a mere administrative point of view the right name is "Reggio nell'Emilia", in all the official documents the name is that one.
A good source for that is ISTAT, which stand for Istituto Nazionale di Statistica (National Insitute of Statistics, a government agency), I personally wouldn't use comuni-italiani.it as a reference, could be useful but it's not an official website :
