step 8. I installed ONLY Passthru, and did NOT select “GM - GDS/Tech2Win” in

After much trial and error, I did NOT need to have VX-manager install "GM - GDS/Tech2Win", and what worked for me was to get TechLine Connect working (as admin) before I installed and ran VX-manager where I installed only the PassThru but did NOT run PassThru.
Earlier before I finally got it all working, I think problems came about when I was installing VX-manager before TechLine, I think VX being there was causing errors in techline. So, perhaps suggest folks try installing Techline and get it working BEFORE installing any VX-manager software.
Details below...

After trying on 3 laptops over 6 days, I finally got a clean install of TechLine to finish and run ok on a new vmware-win10. I right-clicked and chose properties of two shortcuts on desktop: Edge, and Techline. In properties of each, I checked "Always run as administrator". So now when I double-click Edge, it warns me I'm running edge as administrator, which is ok, because I think it enables edge to actually "Run Techline as administrator" when I check that box in the acdelcotds web page. On first run, Techline to quite a while to updating many components.Only When I finally got to the "Connect" prompt did I then shutdown Techline, and proceed to install VX-Manager (extracted from VXDIAG.zip file downloaded directly from https://www.vxdiagshop.com/info/download/ (which now comes directly from http://www.vxdiag.net/managecenter/download/vxdiag.zip where as of 2024-01-25 newst seems to be "Current Version: V1.8.9 Build 0601 NEW UPDATE: 2022-06-01"

I think the GDS/Tech2Win was shutdown by GM in 2019, and was used mostly to clear codes. I did not or was not able to clear codes before I reprogrammed the 2 modules in SPS, but SPS offered to let me clear DTCs after reprogramming finished. It took 3 tries to reprogram the darn battery module, but it eventually worked, and then finished the 2nd module in one try. Shutdown laptop, turned off the volt, and was able to charge again.

In past, I use a small well-regulated 12-volt DC supply connected to the jumping spot under the hood to make sure the 12-volt battery does not drain too much: during the procedure it wondered around 12.0 volts +/- 0.2 volts. All is good now I hope!
I'll post this info to volt-forum and maybe reddit after I get some sleep tonight and in the morning see if the volt topped of the high-voltage battery after hopefully charging overnite.;-)

google-doc says "This document was last updated on February 5, 2023" but github last updated 2022-09-22 as of today 2024-12-21

Thank you for putting on github, and I'll try to contribute. For example, I did notice that the google-doc has some info not in this git repo, including this line just before: step 1:

"This document was last updated on February 5, 2023"

But I saw no way to have google-docs tell me what was updated. So I put them up side by side and by eye noticed the google-doc had added the following line in the middle of step 12:

This is where the VIN assignment to your subscription happens. You will see a message that says "Warning: The current vehicle will take one of your available VIN Slots." Simply select the “Proceed” button and your ACDelco subscription will be updated.

Finally, thanks again for additions that appear on github but not in the google-doc, such as:

Note: Techline Connect will still work even if your PC doesn’t meet their required specifications

In general, it is pain to read thru pages of advertising-laden postings at https://www.gm-volt.com/ or reddit. When important info is presented, I see folks saying this should be more easily found, perhaps by making a "sticky" post (tho I don't see how or where to make something sticky other than to bookmark it). And while I think it is good idea to use something like github to track changes and keep info up-to-date, I'm playing with some more user-friendly methods more akin to wikipedia. I'll report back here and the forum/reddit when I have something concrete to suggest. BTW, I'm having to do this procedure for the second time in under 2 years... ordered the defeat plug this time ;-)
