pocketizer's Introduction

https://gglukmann.github.io/pocketizer

New tab - Pocketizer

Browser extension - Unofficial Pocket new tab extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge

Get your Pocket unread list and archive right on your browsers new tab.

You can mark your items as read, delete them or add to the favorites list. You can find your items faster with searching over titles and URLs and if you don't have Pocket original extension installed, you can add new links too.

PS! Redirecting back from social login doesn't go back to extension. If you only use Firefox or Google login then you can't log in into extension. But you can set a password in Pocket website and then login with that as a workaround.

pocketizer's Issues

An empty list's message isn't encoded

Hi. Thanks for this extension. It actually makes Pocket useful!

I've noticed that when I have an empty list the text reads:

Looks like you haven't saved anything to Pocket yet!<br><small>Start by clicking the plus icon next to your username.<small>

I can see that it's the Helper.js file that's responsible but cannot see where the change needs to be made (hence no pull-request).

I'm using Firefox 58.

Please let me know if you'd like any more information.

Be more descriptive at AMO

https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/new-tab-pocket/ there's no description, please can you add one?

Include a worded hint of what's in one of the screenshots:

Google and Firefox authentication does not redirect back to extension.

In other words, unless I'm missing something, I can't use my Firefox account to log in (and IIRC it was with this account that I began using Pocket, so I can't use the extension).

Preference suggestion

Hello Dev,

Thanks for your great work on this addon. You made easy what Pocket still can't do : put a damn little "sort by" option (I don't know if it has it if you're Premium...). You could add more option (like "order by tag" or "by title" or "by URL". But something that annoys me a bit is not having any options to turn the addon off of controlling new tab. I really like to click on the icon and open Pocket revamped interface, but I would like to have another addon (or the default itself) when I click on the plus sign. Again, thanks to code such a beautiful addon.

Item URL needs to be updated

Describe the bug
Pocket changes item URL from "https://getpocket.com/a/read/" to "https://app.getpocket.com/read/". So, right now the "Open in Pocket" link redirects to Pocket homepage (app.getpocket.com)

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to Pocketizer list
  2. Click "Open in Pocket" link

Expected behavior
Open link as Pocket Article view.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: MacOS, 10.15.2 (Catalina)
  • Browser: Firefox
  • Version: 72.0.2

Line 209 @ components/Item.js

pocketLinkElement.setAttribute('href', 'https://getpocket.com/a/read/' + element.item_id);

Can't authorize

When trying to authorize in the pop up I first got a message that the certificate was configured wrong. When I added an exemption I just got to a page saying Forbidden.

Some UX and preference suggestions, licensing

Hi,

I've searched for a solution to see my Pocket list in my new tab and your extension ticked all the boxes!

Been using it for about two days now, and while I'm still exploring it, I'm loving it as a product and would like to suggest some preferences and UX suggestions:

  1. Dark mode: With all the Pocket versions having an option for the dark mode, I don't see why this extension couldn't mimic that behavior.
  2. Preferences:
    1. I'm slightly bothered by having to click on "Open in Pocket" to see an article in Pocket. I wish there was a way to reverse that process, so that I would be able to click anywhere on a card and be redirected to Pocket, with a small "View original" label below that would allow me to see the original.
    2. Some option to view tags. Tags, by themselves, are not that useful in the free version. However, they become exceptionally more useful once you have Pocket premium and once they are automatically suggested based on the content. With all that work done by Pocket, it's a shame not to be able to see them.
    3. I'm slightly bothered by the way the extension handles bottom padding of the featured images (I would easily sacrifice cropping top and bottom to make them fit instead of leaving out white space if the image is wide).
    4. Height of the cards themselves. Loosely associated with the previous thing, the cards themselves seem way too high. On my 14 inch monitor, I only see four articles at once. I've zoomed out the extension to 80% so that I would see the majority of two rows of cards. I would easily sacrifice smaller "My Pocket List" heading (or remove it all together, maybe the Pocket icon is enough?), and some of the featured image height to accomplish this. I would also suggest considering to move the "trending" toggle to the upper "status bar" as well.
    5. Make the status bar fixed, so that it remains visible even while scrolling. Self explanatory, kind of annoying to have to scroll up the entire way if I want to switch to the "recommended" tab for example.
  3. Add the license to this project. While you have indicated that you want the MIT license on Mozilla AMO, you haven't added the license to the repository. When not indicating a license, it's considered, by default, that the code is under your copyright. See this link, from which I'm sharing a quote below:

If you find software that doesn’t have a license, that generally means you have no permission from the creators of the software to use, modify, or share the software. Although a code host such as GitHub may allow you to view and fork the code, this does not imply that you are permitted to use, modify, or share the software for any purpose.

And, as a first option of me, as a user, in such a case:

Ask the maintainers nicely to add a license. Unless the software includes strong indications to the contrary, lack of a license is probably an oversight. If the software is hosted on a site like GitHub, open an issue requesting a license and include a link to this site, or if you’re bold and it’s fairly obvious what license is most appropriate, open a pull request to add a license.

"Archive Item after open" setting not working

Describe the bug
"Archive Item after open?" is enabled, but does not archive items after you open them.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Confirm "Archive Item after open?" is enabled
  3. Open new tab
  4. Click on item
  5. Close item tab or open new tab
  6. Item is still in "My List" and not in "Archive".

Expected behavior
Items should be moved to Archive after clicking on them.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: macOS 12.2 Monterey
  • Browser: Firefox
  • Version: 97.0

[Feature Request] Search bar

Hi! First of all, thx for creating this wonderful addon. It makes pocket back in a good workflow now( versus saving tons of links but forget to "read it later"... haha what a irony.).

May I suggest adding search feature in the same view, so we can use it as a catalogue too.
Thx, have a nice day!

Add as section to Firefox Home

I find both the Pocketizer list and Firefox Home (with search bar and top sites) really useful. There is a section on Firefox Home for suggestions from Pocket, but it's not customised at all, and I'd love to have that show my pocket list instead.

Would it be possible for Pocketizer to be a section on there instead of its own tab?

It actually looks like the Highlights section should be able to do this, but I think it might just be showing the pages recently saved, not the full archive:

I'm not sure if this is even something that addons can hook into, my searches haven't turned anything up.

Not working correctly

Hi,

Just installed to try the extension but doesn't seem to work:
