It's bad enough this playbook can wreck a role requirements file. Let's make it so it can handle a list of collections, too.

Example requirements.yml that is currently slashed in half by this playbook:

---
roles:
  # Install a role from Ansible Galaxy.
  - src: geerlingguy.java
    version: 1.9.6

collections:
  # Install a collection from Ansible Galaxy.
  - name: geerlingguy.php_roles
    version: 0.9.3
    source: https://galaxy.ansible.com

I'm pretty sure it will annoy @bcoca and @jctanner, among others.

I just ran this on drupal-vm today and got:

   - name: geerlingguy.java
-    version: 1.10.0
+    version: 1.9.7

So... the version comparison is definitely not working as planned.

Because, you know, testing is good. If you're going to have one of the worlds most disgusting playbooks, laden with tons of Jinja and Pythonic hacks marked up in YAML... you should probably test it and see just how fragile it is.

I just tried updating ye olde requirements file like the following:

---
- src: geerlingguy.ansible
  version: 1.2.0
- src: geerlingguy.certbot
  version: 3.0.0
- src: geerlingguy.docker
  version: 2.1.0

And that didn't work, because this playbook expects a more modern style, like:

---
roles:
  - name: geerlingguy.ansible
    version: 1.2.0
  - name: geerlingguy.certbot
    version: 3.0.0
  - name: geerlingguy.docker
    version: 2.1.0
