gdg-events-app's Introduction

Google Developer Group Events

This app will show different Google Developer Group Events, encouraging the user to participate in one. This is accomplished by putting the user into the position of a participant of former events, by letting them view a photosphere of those.

Increased immersion can be achieved by using a Cardboard or compatible device.

Play Store

As soon as we have published the apk, we will put a link here, so you can enjoy its features, without compiling it.

Source Code

This source code is provided as-is. Do not expect any changes, but we'll try to keep it up and running. What you can expect is more content over the curse of time.

Feedback is always welcome, so please feel free to drop a line, or leave an issue here, on github. Also pull requests are always welcome.

Hacking

If you want to extend this app, please feel free to do so. This project uses a default Android Studio layout, with the recommended layout for the cardboard library.

Third Party

This app uses Contentful for managing it's content.

All rights are belonging to their individual owners.

gdg-events-app's Issues

Starting App first time, does not yield results

Upon loading the app for the first time, waiting a reasonable amount of time (30 sec), no events get loaded into the navigation drawer, a restart of the app is needed to see the expected list of events.

Add CI support

Add travis.yml and more to make this repository seem robust.

This is dependent on #4

UnitTests

Please add UnitTests, since we are already using a somewhat testable structure. If the structure is not testable, make it testable.

Separate UI into different Activities

Currently we are using only one Activity for displaying the results.

We should change that into at least 3 Activities:

  • An Activity shown at the start of the App.
  • One for selecting events, once they are loaded.
  • A detail Activity if an event got selected and
  • an about Activity, to inform the user, about what is actually going on here.

With this split into Activities, we gain useful use of the backbutton, and a saner behaviour check for all the different aspects of this app (No About overflow, when About is displayed, etc)

Update to GoogleVR SDK

Since I/O the daydream vr update was introduced, a new SDK got released. Update this app to use the Google VR SDK and think about updates to UI/UX (Daydream Controller vs. Trigger)
