Market Basket Analysis using Association Rule Mining with Apriori Algorithm

This project is a Python implementation of Market Basket Analysis using Association Rule Mining with the Apriori Algorithm. Market Basket Analysis is a technique used by retailers to understand which items are purchased together by customers. This information can be used to optimize product placement, marketing, and pricing strategies.

Association Rule Mining is a technique used to identify patterns in data. It involves identifying sets of items that frequently occur together and then generating rules that express the likelihood of a certain item being purchased given that another item has already been purchased. The Apriori Algorithm is one of the most popular algorithms for Association Rule Mining.

The Apriori Algorithm works by first identifying all frequent itemsets in the data. An itemset is a set of one or more items that occur together. The algorithm then generates candidate itemsets of increasing size, and prunes those that do not meet a minimum support threshold. Support is a measure of the frequency of an itemset in the data. Once all frequent itemsets have been identified, the algorithm generates association rules from these itemsets. An association rule is a statement of the form "if A, then B," where A and B are itemsets.

In this project, we use the Apriori Algorithm to perform Market Basket Analysis on a retail dataset. We first identify frequent itemsets, and then generate association rules from those itemsets. We then evaluate the performance of our model by measuring the lift and confidence of the association rules. Lift measures the strength of association between two items, while confidence measures the likelihood of the consequent item being purchased given that the antecedent item has already been purchased.

Overall, this project provides a comprehensive implementation of Market Basket Analysis using Association Rule Mining with the Apriori Algorithm, which can be used by retailers to gain insights into customer behavior and optimize their business strategies.
