workspaces-bar's Issues

Indicate if workspaces have active applications

First, thank you for this extension!

Would it be possible to add some simple indication whether workspaces are empty or have applications running on them?

Maybe only set the dark grey background color for workspaces that have apps running and have it transparent otherwise? This shouldn't change much for dynamic workspaces but would be very helpful for static workspaces.

workspace names

could you please elaborate a bit about how to change the names?
could not follow existing instructions

Publish the updated version

HI ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ

Thanks for this extensions I've been using since its first release.

Lately it was incompatible with Gnome 41 and so deactivated for anyone using Gnome 41 (like me but like any one using a rolling release and so having Gnome 41 since it has been released).
It seems to be fixed by #9 which has been merged one month ago but the version never make it to the extensions repository and it is still advertised as incompatible with Gnome 41.
Is it possible to release and publish a version from the latest main branch ?

Add Gnome 40 as supported version?

Hi!

I just upgraded to Gnome 40 on my Arch Linux install and this extension seems to work fine after having modified the metadata.json file. It might need more testing, but I just wanted to let you know.

Workspace names not showing - Fedora 37 & Gnome 43

Hello,

After upgrading from fedora 36 & Gnome 42 to fedora 37 & Gnome 43 the workspaces are not showing anymore
workspaces
at the top bar.
any solution for that? please.

It is a great extension, hope to maintain it soon.

Thanks

Remove mouse hover effect?

Hi!

I love the new styling! However, I'm not sure the hovering effect when the cursor is on the bar is necessary, as it makes it difficult to distinguish between empty and non-empty workspaces. Also, I find it distracting. Can this be set on the extension's side or is this a Gnome Shell 40-specific thing?

Merci pour ton travail !

Hide empty workspaces

Hi,

First of all, thank you very much for this extension, it really looks amazing.

Do you think it is possible to add a feature that would hide the workspaces that are not used ?

Active forks

Just as FYI for people who upgraded to GNOME 45 and find themselves without a working workspace indicator.

There is spacebar if you want a simple extensions with some additional features like renaming and moving workspaces around:
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/5090/space-bar/

In case you'd like to continue using workspaces-bar because it just works, I published a GNOME 45 compatible fork without any additional features:
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/6394/simple-workspaces-bar/

App indication alwas triggered on joined displays

If I connect an external monitor to my laptop and use joined displays, any app on my external display will cause the workspaces-bar to mark all workspaces as having an active app (and thus rendering this feature pretty useless). It would be great if they would only be marked as such if the have windows on the primary display. And as long as workspaces are only configured for the primary display.

[Feature Request] Options to customize

Out of all the workspace indicatur plugins I found this one to be my favorite. However I think there is room to improve. Sadly this extension is not customizable at all.

I'd wish the following options:

  • Only show used workspaces (where a window is opened)
  • Customize foreground and background color of active/inactive/empty workspace

PopOS Breaks Window Count

This isn't really an issue with this extension, sorry. Just wanted to put this somewhere if anyone else runs into this. Anyway, with PopOS in it's tiling mode, the min windows on a workspace is 1, not 0... for some reason. Changing the comparison to 1 from 0 fixes it. Not really sure how to handle this properly in the extension, but for now, it's an easy edit to the js.

Dropdown view?

Hi, thanks for the nice extension!
I was wondering if there is a way to make the workspaces show as a dropdown instead of all at the same time. I like to separate my workspaces for particular tasks and don't want to be seeing the others (think "Free time", "Work", "Focus", etc.).

An example is this extension which was great but doesn't work with GNOME 40 and seems abandoned: https://github.com/Tomha/gnome-shell-extension-workspace-switcher
