Error on Video Quality 100

We tried to set the video quality in Adobe Media Encoder CS6 and CC to 100 and were not able to encode our video. The source video was in a mp4-container and hat h264-codec used (but we tried other formats and the problem occured there, too).

Custom args "--cpu-used=2" Crashes Adobe Premier CS6

As the issue states, when I input that custom argument my adobe cs6 crashes.

Export settings:

File size

This plugin is great. I just find out about this codec. I am having some issues:
I am exporting 45min 1920*1080 30p 50mbps using Adobe premiere pro cs6. It takes 42 min using H.264 and file size is 2134MB for YOUTUBE 1080p 29p preset.

Webm drops the file size to 247MB estimated with default settings. It takes 3h to export and output file is 2.9GB. If I change the bit rate to 70 from 50. It takes same time and same size output. The estimated is way off from real. This is VP8.

Is this a issue?

Bitrate setting in encoding limited to ~10mbps

First I would like to thank you for this plugin, it's a great way to get higher quality video in a denser package. I'm having issue with the bitrate slider limit at 10,000 kbps. The codec seems capable of higher bitrate, but that higher bitrate can't be precisely set due to having to use the quality slider instead. I'm aiming for 25mbps because it seems to be a great quality-to-filesize balance, but I can't figure how to reliably get that bitrate.

Feature Request: Animated webp export form Photoshop?

No idea how difficult this would be, but I'd love to be able to export animated webp images with transparency.

Am I correct in understanding the plugin currently doesn't do that? I poked around and wasn't able to. Am using Photoshop 5. I can Save As... a WebP file, that works fine. It would be great if it was also an option for Save for Web & Devices... (the only way I know how to export .gifs at the moment)

Media Encoder CC 2014 Crash on Export

While exporting through Encoder CC works perfectly, exporting through the new Encoder CC 2014 results in the following crash. Thought I'd give you the heads up:

Using either VP8 or VP9 codec on 24, 25 or 30 fps at multiple 4k resolutions (3840x2160 / 4096x2304) results in a failed export.

The source is an MP4 1080p file. I'm trying to upscale. Used both Opus and Vorbis audio settings. Duration of the clip is 10 seconds.

error

Again, no troubles in the old encoder. Just in CC 2014.

Most optimized settings for 4K on VP9?

I know what you're thinking "This is not a support forum!". But seriously, I can't get a baseline of information about encoding in VP9, most information that I can find will be the code settings, never can I find a good setting for this plugin (which seem to use different terms or something?)

So I recently got into 4K filming and I exported my video in H.264. On my pc it looked great but when I uploaded to youtube it really compressed it and made it look bad. But other uploaders (like the 4K video from Youtube) seem to have super sharp images! But then I noticed that they were all using VP9, so then I began researched about it and it seems like it's the next big thing from Google.

Then I came across this plugin and I was very eager to try it. My video is 3 minutes long but when I start encoding the estimation of completion seems to be around 20 hours? I was wondering if this is normal? I know it's slow, but I never expected this, and my pc is not that bad. I used these settings: http://prntscr.com/6qm0nh

TL:DR - What are the best export settings to use to get a sharp video like this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTcNtgA6gHs) but still being able to use your pc for 2 days?

"Washed" Colors

I'm not exactly sure if this is an issue or if it's an expected behavior of the WebM standards but, in any case, I believe it's worth to mention.

Although I'm not an experienced video editor I noticed something I can describe, for the lack of better word, "washed" colors after converting some random videos on my PC (Windows) before I could throw away all the originals and save a huge disk space.

Allow me to illustrate the case with one of my favorite TV Shows: My Wife and Kids. 😄

This is a screenshot taken with VLC from the original video which the person alleged it came straight from the Blu-ray (I doubt, but I can't confirm) although after encoded with Adobe Premiere CC 2017 using the basic HD 720p preset from H.264 group. No effects applied at all.

This one is another screenshot, also taken with VLC, more or less at same point of the previous one, using the VP8 Codec, VBR Method with only 1-Pass and 1 Mbps of bitrate.

They look more clear, yes, but different, kind of "washed".

In this particular scene it doesn't look too bad because the actor(s) is/are in a dark bedroom. The color issue becomes more noticeable when there are more or wider light source(s), like in a living room, i.e. Original and WebM.

I thought I could treat the case like an image and applied Levels and (Lumetri) Curves with values similar to Photoshop's Midtone Darkers Preset and Linear Contrast (respectively) and I've got this.

A bit too dark, specially around the scene (Curves' fault >.<) but it's also a working progress. I just add here as background information to describe a (possible) workaround to the color issue, assuming there is indeed a color issue.

Last but not least, thank you for the amazing job

CS4 support

Is it possible to get CS4 support? I have installed it but nothing happens and I cannot import webm files (it says the format is not recognised)

WebM last frame missing

Hello,

I using this plugin with Premiere/AfterEffects CS6,
and found some WebM lost the last frame.

Example:
convert 640 TIFF images to WebM by ffmpeg (set fps 30)

In the web browser(Firefox), this is nice.
But in Premiere/AfterEffects, it seems to miss the last frame.

I try some fps, and the results is below.
frames| fps | duration
640 | 15 | 00:42:10
639 | 30 | 00:21:09
640 | 30 | 00:21:09 (!?)
641 | 30 | 00:21:10 (!?)
640 | 60 | 00:10:40

Is this caused by plugin or ffmpeg?

No plug-in folder!

Hi I do not have a plug-in folder en Premier Pro CS5, is it possible?
i need to instal this plug-in
Anyone knows how to resolve that?
Thanks a lot!

Does “with alpha” work?

Thanks for building this encoder!

I exported a video using the encoder using VP8 and ticking the “include alpha channel” checkbox. But when I load into Premier Pro and put another video layer behind it, it does not show through. (If I use QuickTime/GoPro with Alpha it does show through - the transparency works.)

How to verify that the transparency is actually working?

(I want to load it the video up in Unity 3D to play back with transparency - WebM is one of the supported formats - but it does not show transparency there either. But I am new to Unity, so may be doing something wrong.)

Taking hours to encode a 2 min MOV

Hi there,

First off, thanks for writing this.
We all want to be able to use webm, and this plugin is certainly a good help.

I was trying to use the plugin but it is taking ages to convert a file.
I just used the plugin on its default state.

any tips?

crash at export on 99%

When exporting to mpeg2-dvd (to separated files m2v and mpa) premiere crashed at 99% too.

"include alpha" option missing

There is currently no method of using Premier to convert from MOV to WebM (VP8 or VP9) with Alpha Transparency, that I know of.

This plugin appears to be broken.
Alternatives or help would be greatly appreciated.

Feature Request: WebP support for Premiere

For importing WebP images or sequences of images directly into Premiere. I'm not sure how complicated this kind of thing would be. I could not find any examples of Premiere plugins which are single-frame importers and not video importers.

Media Encoder not seeing WebM

I've installed the plug-in and it works great in Adobe Premiere CS6, but WebM does not appear as a supported format in Adobe Media Encoder. If I select WebM in Premiere and try to queue up the export in AME, it defaults to AAC encoding (I'm guessing because it's first, alphabetically). I have to encode straight from Premiere, so I can't batch process.

I've copied the WebM.prm file to the indicated MediaCore directory listed in the ReadMe file, including both C:\Program Files... and C:\Program File (x86)...

I'm running Windows 8.1 with Adobe Master Collection CS6 on a 64-bit Surface Pro 3. I also just ran the Adobe Updater to get the latest updates to the programs. Is there something else I should try?

Can't export any webm file

So I was looking for a software that can encode webms and stumbeled upon your plugin. I have a lot of webm files and I want to edit them and then export them back in the same webm format. Adobe Premiere CS6 opens them without problem and I can edit and do whatever I want with them, but when I try to export/render them I get the unknown error - can't compile movie. It doesn't matter in which format I try to export the same error. At first I thought that maybe the problem was with webms I was using, but it can't be that they're all broken?

"Incompatible Video Codec Found" error...

I've used your plugin before with great success. thank you!

I just recently got an error message when trying to use it. Does this have to do with an incompatibility with the latest Media Encoder?

Custom Args for VP9 Encoding

Hi,

I'm trying to test some video encoding in Adobe Premier CC 2017 with the WebM/VP9 codec in 8K (60fps). Encoding takes a very long time even for small videos (<5 mins).

What are the 'best' custom args we can use to speed up encoding without compromising quality? Also, is it possible to use GPU CUDA cores to encode 8K video using VP9?

File estimate always wrong

Hi there, love the plugin, don't know if anyone else is having this issue but the estimated file size in adobe premiere is always hugely different from the actual size of the exported file. It can say estimated file is 5 mb but exports as 47 mb? Have tried multiple ways of exporting, VP8 and VP9, constant or variable quality, exporting in premiere instead of media encoder etc. the estimate is always wrong. If this problem is still unsolved, is there a way I would be able to calculate the correct estimation and disregard the wrong estimate in premiere? thanks so much!

P.s. working in Adobe CC 5015, with the most recent updates to both premiere and media encoder

keyframe indextable sometimes broken

I noticed that some webm's created with premiere are kinda weird. When opened in vlc I sometimes can't fast forward properly. Is there a way to fix it?

Low CPU usage

Forgive me if this is a stupid question as I don't have any previous experience with VP8/VP9 encoding, but the encoding was terribly slow and I checked the CPU usage -- it was at around 25%, sometimes as low as 11%. In alll attempts I don't think it got over 50% even once.

I tried --cpu-use, -t and --thread arguments (I tried 11 and 12 as thread values, since I have 6 core/12 thread CPU), but no change. I tried Constant Quality and VBR settings, one pass, two pass -- but nothing seemed to have any effect on the CPU usage.

With h.264 on Adobe Media Encoder, CPU usage goes to 95% even using CUDA for rendering.

Is this normal?

AME freezes machine as a whole when multi encoding same file.

got this issue where my whole machine freezes when i try to encode with multiple presets with VP8 of an image sequence.
no matter how many or how few i do at a time, if its more than just one it will lock up my system as a whole and are forced to shut down.
this has happened every time i have tested it on my windows machine with the latest CC updates (official too)

the multi encode feature is one of the main reasons i love adobe and i like doing it to compare the quality i get for the filesizes.

Music is not synchronized when VP9 encoding

When changing fps such as source is 29.97 but target is 25,it often occur music not synchronized after finished.
This issus become more serious when the video is longer

Super slow encoding times in Premiere Pro CC

Hi! I have a 720p, 5minute, 25fps footage, which I need to convert in webm, because Chrome seems like doesn't support h.264. First I will convert with constant bitrate (final file around 150mb), later with Constant Quality (what is this exactly? It will hold the same quality but in less file size?)

Media Encoder CC says encoding time is 26hours! (same in PP). Is it normal for VP9 codec, or better if I try to find other software to finish it earlier?

Maximum resolution

Hi, I have been looking into codecs which can support resolutions greater than 32000, and ended up finding VP9, and this plugin. I found a line in "WebM_Premiere_Export_Params.cpp" which limits the resolution to 8192, and I was wondering if this is an arbitrary limitation which could be raised, or whether that value was chosen for a reason?

Unfortunately my C++ is very rusty and I couldn't find any instructions for compilation. The only thing I did try was to specify a -w 16000 argument in the options box, but then noticed that the export params file doesn't handle that argument (which is fair enough).

I guess in summary, is it possible to increase this maximum value?

Thanks

Exporter Not Found?

I swear, I must be missing something. I spent a solid hour or two googling and reading every issue on this GitHub and still finding no resolution.

I just downloaded this project from your website. I install it, even made it accessible for everyone (though I'm the only account). Whether I try to import one by one through Adobe Media Encoder (CS6, Windows) or put all of them into the folder myself, WebM is not an encoding option, and when I try to import, the error I get is "Preset could not be imported. No exporter found for this preset."

None of the folders in what I have installed have any kind of "package" or executable for the exporter. I'm genuinely at a loss and about to pull my hair out. I've tried reinstalling several times, but I feel like something is missing.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

How can I fix it?

Instructions

I'm not experienced with installing plugins for Adobe products - I need to be able to import .webm files into Premiere Pro CS 5.5, and my search led me to this plugin.

Where could I find detailed installation instructions? I looked in the readme files, but couldn't figure out what to do.

Thanks :).

No WebM.prm

Hi,

I downloaded the installer, but it doesn't seem to want to install the WebM.prm file. It only installs the 'presets' forlder, and the PDF manual.

Tried to get it to install on my laptop as well, but same issue.

Queue to Media Encoder not working

When you want your file to be encoded by Media Encoder from Permiere Pro CC, you can set the encode up so it will encode to a WebM file, however when you send the file to the queue of Media Encoder, the output of the queued item in Media Encoder is all of a sudden something entirely different (in our case the output format was set to AAC Audio). When you go into the dropdown list of available outputs of Media Encoder, WebM is not there. Export directly from Premiere Pro CC does seem to work though. Would be nice to have Media Encoder support for encoding multiple files in a batch.

This was on the Mac by the way.

Plugin not working at all

No matter where I place the .prm or the presets folder, I can't import the presets to choose them as an option in the Media Encoder. Have it under CS6/MediaCore/, under each program's Plug-ins/Common/ folder, and each preset under their respective systempreset/ folder. Double-clicking the .prm only opens Premiere and does nothing else. Kind of frustrated now because I spent 3 hours trying to fix the problem and read every other closed issue here and other stuff online with no solution.
