The "secret.txt" and "local_settings.py" files that contain the secret key and database credentials respectively should have their permissions bits set 0600. This will further protect the app when another website or app residing on the same server is compromised, and grants filesystem-level access as a non-root user IF each app is run under it's own UID, even if they share a GID.

The hand-rolled model creation forms are redundant and all of their functionality can be handled in the admin. They should be removed and replaced with proper access controls.

Class.objects.bulk_create() fails with no error information, perhaps we can do lightweight sanity checking on models before creation is attempted?

We should have an auditable history of assets and checkouts that is enforced for all users, not just "staff" users

Can we reduce the amount of custom code we run, while making things faster and prettier?
