Now that F25 is out, the file releases.json should created.
an external hard drive is mounted in windows 10. Then the mediaWriter application starts and the "customized image" option is selected. A fedora 25 atomic distribution iso is selected, but there is no choice to find the hard drive mounted previosly. Seems that only "removable drives" can be used for this task, but the external hard drive is not recognized to "burn".
[universal usb installer] ( https://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/ ) does have this option instead, but with a tag that indicates that it could be used with caution.
They should be translated. :)
Once launched - stops working, there's just a program window outline (no content whatsoever visible) and system message appears that program stops working = reporting. Standard Windows 10 x64.
Program tested is 4.0.7 and 4.0.4 - both in 32-bits.
mediawriter 4.0.7 does not update labs to f25 in linux and MAC
workstation server and spins offer f25/24/23
labs only offer f24/23 or just f24 downloads
First,
kudo for the flowless feature implementation at least on my brand new HD/SSD laptop.
Really it as a breeze to install Fedora workstation and resize the windows partition.
Now, here is a RFE for you.
The stick i used is 16GB and a lot of space is left unusable on it.
I wished i could use the linux disk utility to format a partition on that space but it comes back with error :
I'd appreciate your thought on what to do to enable access to this wasted space.
When I starting the Fedora Media Writer, and asking for download, the app doesn't detects what kind of portable devices I have available already. Only capable to see USB HDD or SSDs, but not SD cards, pendrives, nor DVD disks. The immediate writing option under the panel only available with USB HDDs or SSDs only.

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
All the VC++ installed...
When Media Writer starts to write, a Windows Error Report dialog shows up saying "helper has stopped working"...
Tested on Workstation option and Custom ISO option, others didn't test, download speed and verifying process (uses ~11% CPU?) are very slow, so assume they will hit the helper.exe problem eventually...
Closer inspection with Process Explorer shows helper.exe runs this command (this is Custom ISO option):
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Fedora Media Writer\helper.exe" write D:/Downloads/F24-x86_64-MATE-20161023.iso 1
Running it on cmd.exe returns -1 and then the same WER appear...

MediaWriter seems to be continuously querying the above url, but the server responds with "Not Found":
Warning: Was not able to fetch new releases: "Error transferring https://fedoraproject.org/releases.json - server replied: Not Found" Retrying in 10 seconds. ((null):0, (null))
Edit: Forgot to mention: This is on the latest release available on Fedora 24 (mediawriter-4.0.0-2.fc24.x86_64
)
After installing Fedora Media Writer and attempting to launch it on Windows 7 SP1 Professional 64-bit, I immediately get a crash dialog box titled "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" that states "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
Happy to provide a screenshot if needed.
I downloaded Fedora Media Writer from here: https://getfedora.org/en/workstation/download/
Which gave me the download link: https://getfedora.org/fmw/FedoraMediaWriter-win32-4.0.7.exe

Testing a next, next for Fedora Workstation 25, the resulting boot does not pass media checking. Using all of the same hardware and the f25 mediacreator, boot passes media check. Using the same image and livecd-iso-to-disk
passes media checks.
This was reported in freenode#fedora and I was able to confirm with a fully updated Windows 10 install using known good hardware and the latest build from https://getfedora.org/en/workstation/download/
https://github.com/MartinBriza/MediaWriter/releases/download/4.0.0/FedoraMediaWriter-win32-4.0.0.exe
on #fedora-rel:
mbriza: Warning: Was not able to fetch new releases: "Error transferring https://fedoraproject.org/releases.json - server replied: Not Found" Retrying in 10 seconds. ((null):0, (null))
mbriza: what/who are you expecting to put something there?
and how was that url arrived at?
Mediawriter fc24 4.0.0-2.fc24 does not give this error
cstratak (~[email protected]) has joined #fedora-releng
satellit windows mediawriter also says checking for new releases but downloads spins and labs
nirik points to https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/api/collections/ instead.
931930
nirik: well it needs to get the images in releases
I am not sure what it is actually expecting
ok. dunno either
seems like some communications have been forgotten
dgilmore is only finding out because he got asked to go look at his ex wifes uncles computer
dgilmore suspects they have ransomware installed
so figured using a live to inspect the system is a good idea
satellit I suspect that this is a placeholder for f25 release lives when they are added..?
satellit: maybe
your guess is as good as mine
thats why I asked mbriza
we probably should sort it out this week
Writing a USB stick is a long-lasting task. It would be awesome if you could send a desktop notification once the writing is done. The same way apps like Nautilus do it (at least in GNOME) once I/O operations are done. Just an idea.
When I start mediawriter, it tries do download https://fedoraproject.org/releases.json but the file does not exist:
$ mediawriter

$ curl -I https://fedoraproject.org/releases.json

in order to be able to sign the builds we need to use xcode to build

thanks a lot for your help
We have an FOSS application called Gnome Multiwrite in repos in long time - that is capable to write out multiple USB drives, pendrives with different sources. It would be great support to the app for Ambassadors, if doesn't have to wait the visitiors till the disk gets ready.
I had to change only "cs.qm" to "cs.po" file in source files then it found the file and complete compile process.
Thank you*

MediaWriter should automatically check (and provide option to initiate check manually) for updates and provide mechanism to upgrade to a new version on Windows so users won't be stuck on old versions.
Today I've tried to install Fedora 25 alongside Windows 7. Windows 7 is installed in a way that it doesn't have EFI partition, but created live USB attempts only to create EFI boot (and fails with irrelevant errors, s.a. reporting zero free disk space, while there are 500 GiB free space).
I don't know where to begin to collect information for this bug: there are so many things broken at the same time.

Today I wanted to create a bootable Ubuntu stick with the MediaWriter.
When I selected the ISO the selection screen closed normally but immediately afterwards the system froze. I tried it a second time after restarting, but the same happened. I then tried it with XORG where it still froze but I was still able to move the mouse. The fourth time I started regularly again but with journalctl -e on another terminal. This time only MediaWriter froze, and I got a lot of output in the journal, mostly looking like this:
Dec 14 11:12:36 Acru2015-PC kernel: nouveau 0000:01:00.0: gr: ILLEGAL_CLASS ch 10 [007ee85000 Xwayland[1706]] subc 0 class 090c mthd 1b0c data 1000f010
The output of MediaWriter showed nothing.
I then tried to create a regular Fedora bootstick, where it froze the system again a few seconds into the download. On a side note my youtube music resumed regularly.
I am running an up-to-date Fedora 25 with Gnome Wayland.
I downloaded fedora mediawriter in windows xp in my computer, setup it in c:/. and this message told me it cannot run. Why?
I have tried to use MediaWriter on a macbook pro running macos Sierra to create a Fedora image on a SanDisk Cruzer Edge Media 16GB drive. The SanDisk device does not show up and I only see the meesage 'There are no portable drives connected'.
Running the Media Writer on my Windows quits with an error message before showing any UI.

I could not find any more information on the problem. Any hints where to find logs with more information to help you? I suspect a missing library, but actually I have no clue...
I used Fedora Media Writer 3.97.1 from getfedora.org and am running Windows 7 Enterprise.
After trying a few other tools to create a bootable USB stick i finally managed to do it with Rufus using DD.
MacOS Sierra
tried four USB flash drives, two were undetected despite formatting them for various filesystems. The tool kept reporting There are no portable drives connected.
While downloading, it crashed on several occasions. Each time when restarting it had to start at the beginning. Several times it just failed with a corrupt download for unknown reasons.
During the period I am able to download the official ISO so I don't think it's a connectivity issue.
Not seeing any info on logfile location and nothing in the console is tagged with fedora
or media
so not sure where to start to provide more useful debugging info.

thanks for the report, i'll take a look at it
Same behaviour in https://github.com/MartinBriza/MediaWriter/releases/download/3.95.0/mediawriter.dmg
also it is unsigned
I just tried mediawriter on rawhide on my 4k 28" display 3840x2160 and it has tiny, tiny text in a small window.
Just for a experiment I went and removed all the explicit font.PIxelSize calls in the qml code (all of them, no matter what pixel size). The result is a much more bareable experience.
I don't know much about qt or how removing the explicit sizes might affect other platforms but I think generally leaving the font size on the mercy of the desktop environment is the preferrable way to go here.
Perhaps styling some of the captions as "heading", "h2" or something of the sort...
I faced following issues with creating the live USB:
The following issues occured before it started actually downloading the image
After couple of retries it started downloading the Fedora 24 64 bit image but after downloading the following message popped:
I am using Windows 10 64 bit.
Unfortunately I can't find any notice whether the downloaded images are verified for security and integrity like proposed by fedora itself?
Where does the MediaWriter download the .iso file to in Windows?
I have several keyboards installed (including Bulgarian) and the installer launches in Bulgarian language with no way to change it. I tried switching keyboards before launching the tool, uninstalling all non-English keyboards, etc, but the language is always Bulgarian.
This is version 4.0.7 from the Fedora release page.
There is no translation support, making the app unusable for the majority of Fedora users. Ideally, it would be integrated with https://fedora.zanata.org/, although adding the gettext infrastructure is the first step.
Additional question: is https://github.com/lmacken/liveusb-creator a dead project? Should I remove it from Zanata (https://fedora.zanata.org/project/view/liveusb-creator), so no more translators' time is wasted on it?
After selecting an image to write the user is presented with a choice of available devices. At least in my case (on Fedora 24) that list is not useful at all. For example, I see "090c 1000 (2.0 GB)" but have no idea what device that is. If I click the "Write" button, I get another dialog (to enter my sudo credentials) where I learn that this is actually my (USB-connected) printer.
There ought to be a way to display more complete device information (such as the associated device file in /dev).
Also (though that might be worth a separate issue), some devices are missing from the list, so it would be useful to have a command-line interface (for example) to specify a device name to attempt to write to.
