I tested with [email protected] and Node 9.5.0 on MacOS and am not seeing the issue. Since none of the Feathers core module is doing anything special on installation most issues like this are usually problems with the host system and can often be fixed by upgrading to the latest Node and package manager version.

I was able to resolve this. Looks like its a known issue with yarn 1.3.2
I had to install node-gyp npm install -g node-gyp,
then was able to run yarn add @feathersjs/socketio
from socketio.
