Hi there @ErnieE5, first of all, thanks for sharing this code with us! I really appreciate it!

Despite I'm Brazilian and have a very poor knowledge of Lua language, but I'm playing around to change this scenario...

So, I interested in contributing for this project, sending a lua version of base64 encode/decode...
But in my tests, this is taking TOO MUCH time, here is my current code, and results:

decode: 
101000101, 30.13738

I dont want to bother you, just want to know how can I can optimize this, do you have some clue about this? Maybe I'm doing something wrong, I dont know. I hope you can help me \o/
